Here is a copy of a letter I sent to Senator David Parks regarding the civil liability bill that he sponsored.
Dear Senator Parks, As you are my State Senator I would like for you to please inform me your reasoning for your sponsorship of SB254. As a retired police firearms trainer with 20 years of service I have been personally named in several wrongful death vicarious liability civil actions all of which have proven to be unfounded. It is a very traumatic experience for the person involved in a deadly force incident and it is especially disconcerting to be sued civilly after being cleared criminally. I am a current CCW and NV State Certified Firearms Instructor and I have had a few of my students also involved in shootings. None of them that I know of have been pursued civilly but I can assure you that with the passage of this law it would certainly encourage such action. If a person has been cleared under NRS what possible reason would you allow the protection from civil prosecution to be undermined. I assume you have never had to use deadly force to defend your life but I assure you it is a life changing experience and the passage of this bill would only make it worse.
