I recently came into possession of some gold jewelry from my grandmother.  My wife doesn't like jewelry and would never wear it.  Is there a place in town I could have it melted down and assayed to hold on to it in bullion form?

The place I mentioned in your other thread prices jewelry and such, they may have a lead. Don't know about melting it down, but I have a hell of a fireplace

i thought most gold jewelry had the karat markings on it.
I think I would just keep it in jewelry form; gonna get scrap gold price regardless of what form it's in why take on the extra expense?
