Galts speech on the audio book is about 3 hours lone and not boring. And from the review done by one of the radio hosts Jerry Doyle, the movie does pretty well. Of course he got a personalized copy (to prevent distribution) and watched it at home.
My wife and I will be going later today at Sams town. Most of the critics hate it becasue it doesn't follow the book closely enough. What movie does, especially from a 1200 page book. |

Cicero didn't give three hour speeches. Neither did Daniel Webster. Of course neither of them were misanthropes; if you hate humanity, you may enjoy inflicting a 90-page soliloquy on it. Atlas Shrugged is a thirty-page philosophical tract wrapped in a third-rate sci-fi novel. |

Do you dislike Rand's message or style?
I have serious problems with "objectivism," but here I'm making an aesthetic judgment about a work of art. Atlas Shrugged is an exceptionally bad novel. It's ripped-bodice, romance-novel bad. The dialog is stilted. The plot is rudimentary, without skillful use of theme to replace an intelligent story. The characters lack any depth. She equates physical attractiveness with virtue, for pity's sake. And 1200 pages of it! One could have read Tolstoy... |
