It's about time, I finally have water at my place in Rachel. It has taken almost 3 years from start to finish this well, nobody out in Lincoln/Nye County moves all that fast to get work done, but no big deal. I finally have all the damn drinking water I could ever want and the only price is the electricity to run the pump.

Price....$9500...which is $2000 more than I paid for my 5 acres. Water was hit a 80 feet and the pump is resting at 160 feet.

The kid enjoyed getting a drink once we let it ran for about 30 mins to flush it out...

Our Great Dane pup is enjoying getting out of the city as much as we do...

The earth is a natural filter.

As long as the water doesn't smell like sulfur, come out extremely hot, or is radioactive, you should be alright

In a town that consists of 50-65 people you start thinking they are all aliens.

Have your water tested.  Seriously.

We had ours tested and discovered that it was slightly over the federal "safe" limit for uranium.  That was a wonderful find, but I'm glad it was discovered.

It occurs naturally around here, but the high levels are due to the big ass copper mine (been shut down for many years) in the area.

We now drink and cook with bottled water (provided by Atlantic Richfield, the owners of the mine and mine property) but are able to wash and do dishes with the well water.

There's a few areas in Nevada where there's arsenic in the water, Ophir comes to mind.  I agree, test the water but you can get a kit and test it yourself for all kinds of nasties.

What was the method used to determine the drilling location?

I shit you not, that is how every well location on my family's property in Utah was decided.

Seriously, Have it tested. Parts of rural Nevada is know to have high content of Arsenic and High fluoride background  numbers.  These can lead to chronic health problems.  From a NV state licensed  Treatment and Distribution water operator.

Alrighty. Just put some in a plastic jug? Where do I take it? Can I buy something to test it out there myself or does it need to go to a lab or something?

If it were me, I would call the Lincoln County Water District at 775-962-5164 and ask for  more information. There are a lot of things which can affect water quality which you simply won't notice over the short term. And who knows what the aliens are stuffing in the aquifers over there!

What were the fee breakdowns for drilling, if you don't mind me asking? Was there a setup fee, and then a fee per foot?

Check with the water department. Sometimes they will provide water testing for wells for a fee and some do it free as a community service.

I don't remember, I had a receipt but it is long gone. It was $9500 total and I remember $30 per foot. Possibly $3500 for the pump. He had it all broken down on the receipt. The guy is out of Pahrump and does wells for the Nevada Test Site.

No,  you just can't put it into a plastic jug. Like another poster said contact the local water utility for help. They maybe able to provide you at cost or no cost the proper sample containers for analysis. Also bear in mind that some samples needed to be held on ice for a max of 4hr to have a quality  analysis determined.  So have a disinfected ice chest  ready for you to collect samples.  You want to eliminate any chance of contamination from all sources.
