| What's the story w/ these guys? |
Last time I was in there even the earplugs I bought were very overpriced and the attitudes are annoying. One of the commandos was loudly telling the whole store that the only thing he felt shooting the enemy in Iraq was recoil. Funny how all the guys I know who have been in the fight over there are much more discreet.

Yeah that sounds like the army guy who failed to get in the PO academy 3 times and it was never his fault. A lot of the guys in there had an attitude but the owner seemed like a nice guy. I bought my first handgun there, it was higher priced but I got to shoot it that day ( still had to leave it there for the 3 days), and a box of ammo.
Now that I have been around a while and talked to the guys in there more than once, I make it the last place to go to look for anything. Some of their stuff is just stupidly priced, the range sucks and if you use the range and holster your weapon they won't let you shop around the counter. This is a place for tourist to shoot a machine gun, and thats about all its good for. |
Ok, cool. I just moved down from Reno/ Tahoe Area and live in Mountains Edge, so I drive by it everyday. I stopped in yesterday and the only guy I didn't get the "commando" vibe from, was a younger guy w/ a beard... seemed like a pretty nice guy. I looked around, not looking at prices and then I got to the pile of pMags and they were at $35.00 a pop! I kind of figured what kind of store this was after that... to their credit, they were at least the windowed ones .

I live down the way and have only been in there one time. I forgot what I had asked for and was quoted an extreme price. Also, was told that the range required purchasing their own ammo. Haven't been back since.
There are always cars in front though. Guy at work last year told me he bought his XD40 there for a bit over $700. Standard XD40. |
| A few years back, I was shopping around for a Springfield GI. The Gun Store had it for $500.00. I go into to Practical to Tactical and they have one for $650. I let them know about the price at The Gun Store to see if they would deal and they tell me to go buy it there. Most of their stuff is crap. |
they are a bunch of idiots and counter commandos thinking they are editors/writers for guns and ammo. My brother in law bought his xd40 there a yr ago before I could even warn him but too late, needless to say he got raped with the price. I went with him to pick it up and was browsing in their AR area, I just kinda leaned a little over the counter and some idiot yells at me saying I can't go closer( I think its the same guy who thinks he has real combat time...) , if I needed to see something, they would get it for me...I told em no thanks, I don't want to see your $1995 DDM4..

Two years ago I started looking around for ar-15 rifles. At that time the configuration I wanted (16" collapsing stock with detachable carry handle chrome lined) was going for between $800-$1000 around town depending on manufacturer. This place was on the way home from work so what the hell might as well check them out. They quoted me prices STARTING at $1200. I forget what there range fees were but I do remember that those were way above what the other indoor ranges charge too. That was the first and last time I ever or will ever set foot in that place again.

I bought a rifle in there 2 years ago for less than what it would have been new without the optics at that time. When I came in to pick it up the manager asked what I paid for it and proceeded to bitch out the guy who was turning it over to me. I guess they should have looked a little harder at what they were selling at the time. I researched it for two days because I couldn't believe they were selling it that cheap.
It was obviously a mistake. WARNING: Haven't seen a deal before or since then. If you buy anything there you better have your homework done because it will probably be cheaper elsewhere. At this point HDI offers much better deals for better quality guns. (without the BS stories). I have spend a lot of money there and my next AR will be from them no questions asked. If you find something that looks like a deal there I can probably help you find it cheaper. Yes, they have ruffled my feathers more than once. |
I just watched the video on their website. They have the dumbest thing ever. They have an M-79 grenade launcher for rent which uses a special 40mm round that contains several barrels that fire .22lr rounds . I wonder how much of a pretty penny they charge to shoot that thing. Geez people, go to Big-5 and buy a .22lr rifle with a 10 roung magazine for $150, at least you'll get a training benefit out of it.

I bought two over-priced Glock 30s there (one as a Christmas gift for an employee). I didn't know any better and it was an impulse buy. It's been down-hill from there. My sister-in-law bought her XD from there for about $200-300 over what she should have paid.
When I went shooting there with my brother and sister-in-law they kept us waiting at the counter for about 20 minutes before even serving us. But I got a great lecture on why 9mm is better than .45ACP from the counter-commandant. They also showed my sis-in-law how to shoot and I had to spend about 1/2 a day out at Desert Lake showing her how to actually HIT a target from a range greater than 8 feet. They also qualified her for a CCW with that kind of shooting. Scary. |

Do you recall who's name is on that form? |

Is this the little blockhouse store just down Blue Diamond from Bass pro? Jesus, I went in there once just for shiggles after running by Bass Pro for some reloading supplies. What a joke that place was. I glanced at some prices on guns and ammo laying about and could barely keep from laughing out loud. And then the commando BS talk started up at the counter with some other customer and I browsed a little bit longer with my ears perked up just for the amusement factor. Well, at least I found someone in town with WORSE prices than Citidel..... |

I believe their actual name is "Las Vegas Gun Range & Firearm"...something or other. "Practical to Tactical" just happens to be painted in big letters on the side of the building (you know, like in Mexico). |

Can you recall the so-called 'instructor's' name? The reason I asked is because I'm curious if they are using some instructor's signature/paperwork when they(not the instructor) are doing the actual qualifying/training. Metro investigated a case whereas the instructor signed a bunch of applications, left them at the range, the range would 'sell' the application, keep half the $$ for themselves, and then the other half is given back to the instructor who was never there or never saw the applicant. |

I don't really see the reasoning behind your investigation into their CCW licensing, nothing I've seen raises any flags IMO. Just because the business name isn't on the list doesn't mean that they are doing anything wrong. I would think that they simply have a certified instructor on the staff who does the CCW training under his name, whoever that may be.
Maybe I'm missing something here? |

If anything should ever happen and they find out that her CCW is falsified, she would get sweated for it, but eventually it would more than likely come down on her, you should find out the instructors name, or go to the location and ask for the target that she shot, so you can get proof... its better to be safe than sorry.... |

Uhuh right I know it sounds weird, but I have kept every target, for every gun, from every student who has ever qualified for CCW since I started my business in January of 1996. That's just me. Kinda of a CYA thing. Nobody can say that a person never qualified through me. Oh yea, they are also filed and organized. Be Safe. Joe |

Joe Joe, Is that something that you were advised to do by a gov agency or other authority? Do the students have to sign the target to record that it is theirs or is there another way that someone can verify that a target with a name on it was actually used by that person? |

Rig, From the inception of my business it was my choice to keep detailed records on my students, and no agency ever required me to keep records of actual qualifications. Once again, it was (and still is) my choice and it works well. I can verify every student who has, and does qualify with Line of Fire, LLC. Hope this helps. Be Safe. Joe |
