Had a guy tell me last night that DMV was going to be raising the registration fees. He said it was a big jump and his 03 pickup would be 200 bucks more than normal
He heard it on a radio station but I cant find any info |
| I don't know what the actual percentages are, but basically they're reducing the depreciation schedule. In an old Las Vegas Sun article I found this: " - Increase the cost to register a vehicle in Nevada. The plan would reduce the depreciation of vehicles from the manufacturer's suggested retail price. For a car originally valued at $15,000 when new, it would cost an additional $21 a year. For a car or truck originally valued at $35,000 a year, it would cost an additional $49 a year." |

This is something that has pissed me off for years.
They add a "Governmental Services Tax" (used to be called a 'Privilege Tax' - sounds so nice...) based on the age of the vehicle. Supposedly, it goes down 10% / year. I just checked and for a 2010 Caravan (35K) it equals $490 the first year. NV Registration Fee Estimation Talk about punishing production! You have a person that worked hard and bought a new car, paid sales tax on 35K ($2600) and has increased insurance fees. So.... you hit them with a 'Privilege Tax' for creating jobs and putting a safer vehicle on the road. Doing rough math, the 'Privilege Tax' equals an extra $3000 over 10 yrs you need to factor into the cost of a 35k car. Damn near 10% of the purchase price. Smart thinking guys... I won't buy another new car in NV. |

Smart thinking guys... I won't buy another new car in NV. That is what really gets me. I bought my truck in Alaska. Paid all taxes and fees in Alaska. Few years later I move down here and they want to charge a arm and a leg because my truck cost a lot This is so depressing |

This used to be such a great state, but the libs and the Kommiefornians have taken a virgin and turned it into a made over street whore. |

You don't think not having an income tax comes without a price do you? Not saying I agree with it or with the incessant increases in spending that drive this shit from the dolts in Carson City but be thankful they're not raping you that way too.
At least I have to keep looking at it that way or I'll be the one on the belltower
Nah fuck it, it just sucks. |

Time for people to start planning their run for the legislature. The platform is just simple TAXES, the democrats just raised everybody's taxes 3 times and it will now cost you $3000 a year more to live, eat , drive a car, have a refrigerator.
All prices will be going up. Of the 42 assembly seats, 27 are in Clark county. 6 are already republican and a bunch of them are not going back because of votes cast for the last tax increase. They have been censured. We need candidates in every district. |
| If any of you have service connected disabilty get that recorded at county assessor's office and use that benifit towards vehicle registration, just being a vet gets you 10% off on taxes toward registration. Of course with service connected disability it goes even higher. |

You don't think not having an income tax comes without a price do you? I'm not a 'get something for nothing person'. I respect that somebody needs to pay for the street in front of my house and the F-16 flying over my head but this method of taxation is just stupid. "Hey they’re buying a new car - they can afford it." They should reward the guy that bought the new car. He's already financially stressed. What incentive does this Privilege Tax give you if you can drive a 1970 beater for $33 / yr? I'm no socialist but isn’t everyone better off if we have more cars with air bags and anti-lock brakes instead of some piece of crap with no shocks and bad brakes. I sure as hell would rather have capitalism be the mechanism instead of a government mandate to ‘upgrade’ your car like they do in Japan. |
| I believe the legislature is representating the state of NV and I heard MANY people tell me Good Ol Gibbons wouldn't pass a tax hike. I think it's time for some new excuses to blame instead of the lack of any ability to produce a budget not BASED on gambling. What did you think would happen when the kommifornians stopped gambling in the state and people didn't visit? How many Nevadans are gambling or getting their car parked when they stay in a hotel? |
| IT is not a rate hike it is a change in depreciation. Your rate will still go down, just not as much as it used to. The article in The Las Vegas Sun was not very specific. It would cost you $49 dollars more if you had just bought a new $35,000 truck than it would have if you bought the truck in 2008. You will still pay less than you did last year, of course that is only if you registered in Nv in 2008. |
| Get this: I was at work today and we were talking about the sales tax going up and I said that it sucks. Then this girl that I work with said "why? Taxes are good. They bring in revenue for the state." She then went on to say how taxes should be even higher. She said her professors were talking about it in school and it makes a lot of sense to have high taxes. WTF is wrong with people! |

Ahhh, the benifits of military service... Vehicle Registration Tax Exemption! Yeah enjoy it while it lasts as I got initiated this year on how much pain it really is to visit the DMV as a resident of this state (vs going in and registering vehicles with the .mil exemption). |

It is a hike...... no matter how you spin it, you will be paying more under this plan, than you would of before. They didn't create all these additions for an increase revenue amount, without us being stuck with paying more!! |
