Hey guys anyone here familiar with setting up a trust for the purpose of registering my NFA items? i'm told that's the only way right now to actually get the suppressor, can anyone here recommend me a lawyer or something etc.

Thanks!

I set up one a few years ago using Microsoft Willmaker software.  I have had no problems with BATFE as a result of it, and it's sure nice to bypass the LEO signoff, pics & prints every time you want to add to your collection.

The way it works is, you find a dealer, buy the item, have it transferred to your dealer, he sends in the paperwork and you both wait for the approval.  Once it returns, he gives you possession of the item and the original form 4.

Even a caveman could do it.

Use Quicken will maker and follow the directions as found in the class 3 forum in the armory section. Very easy. I did mine and it was approved without a hitch.

I used Willmaker '08 recently, took me about 20/30 mins total. Got it Notarized, then finished up the paperwork at HDI for the BATFE .....they cashed my checks on 5 Dec now the wait is on...

AFAIK, I could be wrong, the CLEO sign off is not tough to get in Nevada.  Sometimes it will take three weeks in Clark County but that's all the hassle I'm aware of.

I do not know how true it is, but about 6 months ago the secretary at the Nye County Sheriff's office told me he ( Sheriff DeMeo ) didn't sign for supprerssors.  He has signed for other C3 that I'm aware of.

And, why not avoid the extra 3 week wait and skip the LEO signoff

I used the Quiken Willmaker software to set up a standard revockable living trust. I then took it to my attorney and he proofread it and notarized it. Several transfers later and no troubles with the BATFE. Some dealers will do a NICS check befroe allowing you to take possession after the 4473 is filled out.

Most definate. That is what part of the link showed:

Last SBR trust form 4 took awhile.

6/08 f4 sent
6/11 check cashed
7/03 pending
7/11 approved

dbailey is correct that the LEO takes however long they wish.

I just bought my first NFA item, a .45 suppressor. I'm going the trust route to avoid the CLEO crap, because that's one less person I have to beg for permission to own the thing. Screw 'em.
