I am thinking about purchasing a couple of stripped lowers and I wasn't sure of the rules if I registered one as a pistol lower and later changed my mind and wanted a rifle or carbine upper attached. I know it been discussed but a can't find it in my quick search of the forum.

Thanks

My understanding, and I could be wrong, is that a pistol lower can be turned into a rifle/carbine.

A pistol lower, with NO BUTTSOCK, it can have any length upper on it (16",20", etc.)

Once at buttstock is attached to the lower, it can never become a pistol.

Thanks for the response Silverstate.

I thought the same but wasn't sure. Will most likely still do it. Pistol with a 7.5 upper with rails is what i was thinking.

No problem.  Just one thing, with the rails, it is tempting to install a vertical grip.  Don't do it while it is a pistol...lol
