Anyone done a ride along with LVMPD or NLVPD? I had attempted twice with Metro and twice they never showed up. LOL I am going to be applying soon, and would like to get a bit more insight. Thanks in advance, Matt. |
Actually I am a Firefighter in the AF. On duty right now. I am keeping my ears open for a NLVFD lateral position to open up. But if all else fails I might have no choice but LE. What station you work at? |
I had set the appointment twice for a ride along. I was told to be waiting at a specific time at the station by mandalay bay for the swing shift. I showed up 15 mins. early and waited for over an hour both times, and no one showed up. I spoke to a Sgt. after the first no show, after the second I was annoyed. I never called back. With all the recruitment issues they are having now, I would think they would be eager to entice potential recruits. |
That is unacceptable..... there is NO reason for this. Their captain would lose his mind if he heard this happened. He is not the kind to overlook things. I would try again.... If you really want one, just say when and where. |

We accept applications starting January 1st online. Just go to the NLV website. You should put in a app. We have several firefighters from Nellis. Most of the guys out there at the base fire department know me - just ask them about Lt Semmens - I filled in as the Sect Commander there for a while before they got a new one. Let me know if you need any help/advice, etc on testing and getting on. I've been roving from station to station lately because we have new rookies that bump me out. I'm usually either at 51 or 52. Oh yeah, Tell Sgt Stubbs I said whats up and he needs to come ride with us. |
| Did one a few weeks ago. Set it up through a Seargant I know and rode with him. It was a good time. If you're considering going into LE, definitely get a ride along. I have heard you should get one with patrol, since coming out of the academy, that's where you'll be for the first few years. |
+1 (no laterals, though) HFD is going to see at least 7-8 retirements this coming year and some possible new positions depending on what happens in the new budget process for the 08/09 fiscal year. Plus, we lost 4 guys out of the academy that just graduated so they also have to make up those spots in the next academy. My semi-educated guess would have an academy of 20 or more in 2008. Best of luck to you! |
Sounds like I have another option on the table. I will be putting in an app. there as well. I am new to the department out here, only been here since March 2007. How do I go about getting a ride along with NLVFD? I dont see Stubbs around much he is usually crewing at station 2. I am mostly at the new station 3 rolling on crash. Take care, be safe. Matt |

Just let me know if/when you want to go. Give me about a week to set it up. Between just Henderson and us, you are looking at a easy 40 firefighter slots in 2008. If you have your s#$% together and really work at it, those odds are pretty good. I can help you with test prep and oral boards for North, and also have a bit of knowledge/experience/background with the Henderson testing process (much thanks again to diversmith) |
if you see a cop with red hair that looks like he's too young to be a cop during the graveyard hours, say hi to him... I know we've run into eachother and haven't known it. I'm out with 51 52 and 53 all the time |
