I've been a 1911, Browning Hi Power, and 44 magnum handgun shooter.  I recently picked up a Glock 21, and brought it out shooting last weekend.

After about 20 rounds, the lower portion of my shooting hand thumb kind of where it meets up with my hand was noticeably soar.

I'm wondering if I need to adjust the way I'm shooting the G21, and if there is anything particular about the Glock grip that I should know about to stop this.  I'm very used to the 45 ACP, have fairly large hands, and have no issues with the 45 or 10mm in 1911s.  The 44 mag revolver gives me no problems pain wise, until I've shot many more rounds on an outing.

Maybe I have to just get used to the Glock?

I've had a G21 for a while and I've never had any problems like you described.  Maybe try some different styles of gripping the weapon and see if that works for you.

The only weapon I had that made my hands sore was the Colt Defender I used to have or my friends mini Glock that was chambered in .357 Sig.  The S&W Model 65 in .357 mag I had never beat my hands up even with full house loads.

I'd say just adapt and get used to the G21.  Its a good gun to not get rid of.

More than likely it is your grip.  Come by the store next week sometime and I'll watch you shoot and see if we can make some adjustments.  A little tweaking with your support hand and you'll find you will be shooting better with all of your guns.

ernieb, I should be able to sneak out of work next week!  I appreciate the offer.  Heck, you'll probably find a lot more than my support hand that I do wrong when shooting!

Sorry for my ignorance--what store are you at?

like others have mentioned ita probably your grip, but also combined with the shape of the gun.  The area in the corner underneath the "beavertail" on the glocks sometimes is like a pressure point for some people since its a little more squared off.

I'm at The Gun Store on Tropicana.  I will be on the range side of the business. I will be returning to work on New Years Day (with a throbbing headache!).  A gun range is a rough place to work the day after New Years eve!

Same thing happened to me with my G23. I have small hands so I definitely had to adjust my grip a little. So far it has worked. When I had the S&W M&P, I never did experience anything like that either. I tried using the hogue grip but that just made the grip bigger for me.

Wow when I put the Hogue on my G23C it was a world of difference I found much more comfortable than the stock set up.
I guess it's like anything else it's a matter of preference and what works for one person does'nt work for the other

Just Opinion from a non Firearm expert

Just Opinion from a non Firearm experth. I did try shooting with it and it did keep the checkering on the grip from digging in to my hand. I just had to remove it because of my small hands. I'm use to the stock set up now. I was able to go through the 4-day handgun course at Front Sight with no issues.
