I was wondering if any of you folks would be interested in having a get-together at Desert Sportsman’s for an Optic show and shoot.

We could compare different models and their respectful application out in the field.

I would love to see an EOTech M557 show up

Great idea. This weekend is not a good one for me though.

Sure.  I'd be interested in seeing some Nightforces and Leupold Mark 4's.

Glory,   That is a great idea... For precision rifle I have a Mark4 - 16X on a VSSF .308, and lots of ammo.

Edit to add: Require "guest" status though, for the time being...

Sounds great.  I can also bring out the AR maintenance kit if people need a courtesy headspace, muzzle/chamber erosion, firing pin protrusion, barrel straightness check, etc.

Trijicon, Aimpoint, Kahles, US Optics, Schmidt & Bender and Leica Geovid - Can't remember the specific models.

Okay, I will bring out some of Simmons finest glass.  Don't go fighting over them though, you can all have a turn.

I can probably find an IOR or two on a rifle in the safes.

Depending on how late you want to stay, I can bring the Elcan - it is no fun in the daytime.

I have an AR50 with a Nightforce 8x32x56 mounted to it that I'll be selling as a package deal soon that I could bring.

All I have is a cheap Tasco on a lever gun and a Bushnell Banner on my 10/22. I got on a back order for a Millet DMS 1-4x24mm today. Who knows when I will actually get it though.

Exactly what I was thinking - Time and Date.

How does 12/15 at 1000 sound? Those of us who are members can wait at the gate to escort non members onto the range.

Pretty cold these days, how about 1300 instead?

You show up at 1300 and by then I will have Wolfpacks AR50 all warmed up

j/k if 1300 works for everyone then 1300 it is.

If the 50 goes hot I will gladly put my whitetail cheapie up for target practice @ 300 yards .

Everyone in the NVHTF is "one of the gang" until Wolfpack bans your ass!

and its attending events like these that makes you one of the gang.

Anyways - if everyone intrested could sound off regarding the date and time working for them we can put that issue to bed. Thanks

December 15th at 1300.

Bring what you have. Desert Sportsman's

If you need to be brought in as a guest, just be at the gate on time.

See you all there -

Ok, Sat., Dec 15 @ 1300 hours it is then.

If we plan to shoot any of the scopes, perhaps we should park some gear at range 5.  that way we will have a decent rifle range to work with.

I will put the 10 power IOR on an AR I just re-barreled.  If you want to shoot it, bring 5.56 factory ammo. 1:8.5 twist polygonal, with a heavy contour.

Good idea -

Just to clarify, this is not an "Event"
I am going to be there at the time and date posted, if 4 of my "friends" decide to meet me at the gate at that time I will escort them in.

Other "members" can be there on time and escort in their "friends" who meet them at the gate at the given time/date

The long range bay is usually open as well.  Depending on what we want to do, the pistol bays are 50 yds, those should be suffient for T&E.

I'm getting ready for this. I just ordered the Prince bipod and monopod for the AR50, right now it sits on a Harris and it is buckling under the weight of the rifle. Hopefully I'll have it in time.

I also am having a Leupold 3x10 sent to me for my Win Mod 70 .308 Heavy Varmit with an Anschutz trigger, I'll get some Leupold rings and should have that at DS to shoot.

12/3/2007 8:40:40 PM EDT
[#31]
Another thought. After this get together maybe we can set a date in Jan/Feb and make a competition out of it. We couldn't do it at DS but any place where we can shoot a long distance (lake bed) and set up either targets or poker chips stuck in a 2x4's and have a target rifle challenge, anything either .223 and up or .308 and up. I vote for Sand Springs dry lake.

Wolfpack:

Since you are coming, I will bring the Henry Bowman pistol for ya (50 Beowulf).

I will bring a couple of targets / stands as well.

As for the competition, we could do it at DS as long as everybody becomes members...  come on folks it is not that hard, and it is only 100 bucks a year if you participate.

I am always concerned with sending 50 bmg downrange in a place with uncontrolled access like that lakebed.  I prefer to have a large solid backstop, and a confirmed & controlled impact area.

Thanks Lem. On the lakebed shoot my idea would be to shoot from the lakebed into a hill or mountain, not shoot towards the middle of the lakebed.

I have made commitments with two people to be at the gun show Sat. the 15th.......

Still I will make a best effort to be there if it's held at "DS" 1300hrs.

Believe me, I didn't post this to screw things up, but so people had time to adjust their schedules.

The only thing he'll miss is his $20 he spent on entry and parking after he leaves the show.  Such a disappointing experience anymore.
