Anyone have any dealings with these folks?  It had been a while since I had been in there, but stopped by today.  Looks like they took over the shop next door, which effectively tripled their space.  Not as many long guns in there as I remember, but still quite a few.  Got some pistols too, and lots of Galco and Blackhawk gear.

Anyone used their gunsmith for anything?

I bought a Galco holster in there 2 weeks ago. Nobody offered to help me and I was in there damn near an hour. It's one of those shops where 5 guys come everyday and sit in there smoking and talking to the employee's.

I've never delt specifically with AWP, but I always stopped in there when I was at Native Nevadan (before they knocked the wall down) The owner seems like a cool guy anyway.

Last time I was in there, there was a new female employee (who was hot, but that's besides the point) who bent over backwards to help me out. I've only had one bad experience in there and that's when one of the owners followed me around the store and stared at me like I was going to steal something.

Regardless, that's where I get all of my holsters

" It's one of those shops where 5 guys come everyday and sit in there smoking and talking to the employee's"

It's been a few years since I went in there... It's not changed

I went in there with my wife to have a Bushmaster barrel threaded that had an AK-74 style break attached to it that I had removed... this was after the AWB had expired. Anyway after about 2 or 3 smokes and 2 cups of coffee the guy behind the counter FINALLY stopped talking to his buddy and asked we needed any help( I was about to walk out at this point) I showed him my barrel and asked what he would charge to thread it... " I can't do that... its against the law" Why? I ask, the AWB expired months ago... you even have a couple of AR's on you're rack right there that have threaded barrels... " BECAUSE... its not legal... those rifles came from the factory like that and I won't even touch you're barrel anyway because you made it illegal by removing the break" again I ask WHY? the barrel is still over 16 inches... what laws am I breaking? "  I'M DONE TALKING TOO YOU... LEAVE MY STORE AND TAKE THAT ILLEGAL BARREL WITH YOU!!!"

Needless to say I won't ever go back.

What is it with gun stores being dicks? Is it part of the business license??

And why is it that people selling guns/accessories always charge an extra fee if you use a credit card? Ive never seen this in any other store. If I go to a autoshop i dont have to pay an extra 3 percent.

thats my itty bitty non-rant sort of rant.

Expensive ammo, bad service, and the gunsmith can have your 1911 for months, I'll pass.

I've had real good vibes every time I've been in there (including last week when I bought a IWB holster for my .45).  They let me pull a pistol out of their case so I could try a couple of holsters to see which one felt best....thought that was nice/cool.  Could be that I usually walk in there with a person whom the owner has known for a while...I dunno???

The only knock I've personally heard was that they took their time to do smithing work but that's from someone's experience a few years back.

His used gun prices are way high (like about everyone else's in this town) but I like him, they have a good selection of holsters/gear, and like the shop dog.

You guys want to get me going on bad service/shops in this town just mention Citadel.

I never really had any bad service at Citadel or any other shop in town.  I just thought the guy at BRA was a cranky fucker.  But I can shrug off bad attitudes on the part of counter jockeys because I used to be one.  Hearing all kinds of stupid questions, tough guy bullshit and all around weird militia/government conspiracy nonsense, it tends to give you a dim view of humanity.

My wife's Taurus revolver was hanging up when the cylinder was locked in place.  I took it in, they had it for a few days, fixed it, and didn't charge me anything.  That was my experience.

I bought my Galco holster from Native Nevadan at the Crossroads show over the summer, and then brought my Taurus in to have the trigger spring replaced and smoothed, and a new grip installed.

They were friendly, turnaround time was less than a week, and after I picked it up, they told me to put 50 or so rounds through it and bring it back, after which they cleaned it up and polished it for free.

I've been treated well there, and I love to play with Murphy with a laser while waiting for my turn. I haven't been in for a couple of months, but they were very friendly and helpful to me each time I have been in.

He wanted to charge me $75 for a long gun transfer plus sales tax on the price of the rifle I paid.  Told him, "forget it".  found it cheaper for $20 and no sales tax.  Agree, the dog was fun to watch chase the laser around the floor.

Mike Ward (the owner) is good people. I've known him for a couple years, nicest guy you'll meet, and he is always willing to go the extra mile.

The hottie (Kim) will find whatever it is you're looking for if their well stocked store (leather and gear that is) doesn't have it. She has been straightening out their books and turning it into an efficient operation for the last few months. Go see her, she's a kick in the pants.

It's not easy starting (taking over, in Mikes case) a gunstore in these times, and sometimes you have to charge money to do things. Once that is understood, you can recognize that no, they aren't out to get you when they ask a few bucks for a service, it's that they're trying to keep their head above water.

I'm friends with a few gunstore owners here in town, and have actually worked at Discount, it's tedious work in the 1st place, and the know it all attitudes that walk through the doors everyday were enough to make me stop working there, I credit anyone that keeps up the good fight and offers the services of a gunstore in this day and age.

My philosophy aside, they have a lot of leather and tacticool stuff, will order anything you need, and are good folks; I spend a lot of money there. No, I wouldn't use their gunsmith, although he's a nice guy, I've been spoiled with Burt Taylor's work these last decades and no one can compare.
