Yesterday, I had a radio on, and low and behold, comes this voice giving a guys full name, address, DOB, NDL and SS#. Geez, wish I had a pencil and paper at that time.   Oh, what was I listening too???   Metro NE !!  Geez, with all the warnings of ID Theft, dont do this; dont do that, here comes this across the airwaves for anyone to hear.   Hmmm..  is that normal??

Been doing it since the dawn of the Police radio. There are times when we don't have access to a Patrol vehicle's MCT or laptop, and we need to know who we're dealing with.
As of next year, Police band scanners may be a thing of the past, as the new system may be encrypted from what I'm hearing.

Another thought----

These are criminals we are running...... Who would want to assume the ID of another criminal?

I am sure they have some superb credit!!

Just because a cop is running the ID doesn't mean the guy's a criminal

Don't know what to tell ya, bud.... It's just the way it is. We HAVE to know who we're dealing with.

Keep your scanner on channel 1, listen for the times dispatch comes back with "Are you clear info?" and think of the hair raising on the back of that Cop's neck, and wonder if that info may save his life.

It has before, I guarantee it.

Hey, I'm all for busting the criminals, hard, no early outs, no deals.  But, you can't tell that every guy/gal who has had their id run was a criminal--that's all I'm saying.

If we stop the right people, that is all we will run.

Do you think we run the good people??

It is rare for me to think someone is dirty and not have a criminal history. In fact, I can't remember the last time!!

To clarify this situation, this was an Eviction of an apartment.  Only crime maybe, non payment?

I have in my many years listen to Public Service radio and this is the first time that I have ever heard all this info.  From LA county to Seattle, first time, so I guess it is normal here, but still been here 9 years and that was a first.  Course, I dont monitor 24/7, infact, I dont even have a Scanner!!

Course, that is no dumber than people that use their SS# for their NDL license #!!  I couldnt believe that option that was afforded me, when I applied for my first DL here..   Duhhh, NO THANK YOU  !!

At least they give you an option here.  One state I lived in back east just did it, no questions.  Of course that was back before identity theft was a blip on the radar.

I know what you meant, I was being sarcastic.  I agree with you 100%
