But I'm a local Las Vegas Resident, I have my Bcard's,and I want to open carry in the late pm/early am morning hour's while I feel most vulnerable at work. I understand this is a problem in North Las Vegas, when I go north of the 15 where are the boundries? If you have info or a link to our specific rules for the issue please post them here. CCW class is next. And No I won't be going to any casino's and the like, that's just common sense..IMHO. |

I do not understand all of these questions about open carry in the Las Vegas area. Look, the bottom line is Nevada, like every other states, has highly urbanized areas (Las Vegas and Reno) where open carry is just not a good idea, casino or not. With terrorism, crime, and the urbanization mindset, one just cannot open carry a firearm in public, it just does not work and if you do, you are asking for and will receive trouble. Forget the open carry of a firearm; get a Nevada Concealed Firearm Permit (CFP)! I think of my CFP firearm like my cock; kept it put away and concealed until when the circumstances demand otherwise (that someone does see it!) |
I really must disagree with you. If common sense is used, I think more of us should open carry and we should do it more often. For the good of my community I do it from time to time and I think it makes people think. Thinking is good. You see a Highway Patrol as your going down the road what do you do? Slow down, think and roll away more carefully. You see a snake under a rock hiking what do you do? Slow down, think and walk away more carefully. Your a shitbag looking to roll a citizen for his wallet or steal a vehicle and see a guy walking while carrying openly- what do you do? Slow down, think and walk away more carefully. If your a sheep then do as sheep do, if your not sheep I am preaching to the choir. |

I carry openly every day as part of my job. I go to the convenience store located about 200 meters away from work every day. Every day everyone in that store notices that I am the guy with the gun. Good guys might think it's cool but bad guys might be thinking of how to take it from me and yes the area is filled with bad guys. Needless to say, when I leave work the gun goes into an IWB holster and I become just another valley resident in flip flops, t-shirt, and shorts (with a Glock, two spare mags, a knife, and some new harsh-ass super strong pepper/tear gas stuff I just bought) albeit concealed. Open carry is for your job if it's mandated or for the range. Get a CCW and watch your back. NOONE in Vegas is intimidated by an openly carried firearm. That being said I have driven home from work and stopped at Von's to get some milk while wearing my gun (not the brightest thing I've done) and it was funny how the clerks were sooooooo polite! The are always dumbfounded by how polite I am right back to 'em. I guess they expect worse. |
| I open carry when I take my dogs out for a walk, and I live in the heart of "Old North Town". I try to stay away from people as much as I can, and have never been hassled yet. The new breed of North Town Cops is completly different from the old. I like the new Chief, He takes care of business, and seems to have a good head on his shoulders. Its that Piece of Shit City Manager that we have to look out for. |

Well,I went to work with the sidearm and after about an hour I forgot it was there It felt good knowing I could protect myself if need be,as the sun started to rise I took it off and stowed it in my lunchbox with the magazine out. This was my first time ever to carry, you guy's that have your CCW must feel pretty good. I look forward to the CCW class and being a member. I reflect on the radio show I listen to in the early AM hour's,yesterday a rep from the GOA said (the only person that can stop a bad guy with gun is a good guy with one). |
Say What? What kind of junk logic is this? How does you carrying a firearm open carry benefit the community and make them think? What?????????????? |
|
MP5, Slow down a bit my friend, there was a time here in Clark County when open carry was not a big deal. I don't feel comfortable...now ...because time's have changed,Back in the day it was not uncommon to see citizen's open carry. This part of the state has changed, but we are lucky to still have the option,I would back Glorybigs on his opinion, this is a free state and we should exercise our right to do so. |
I don't think it's junk logic. MOST places I would prefer to carry concealed. Only because I prefer not to have any kind of confrontation. I'm usually in such a hurry, packing the kids around, etc. and I'd just like to get in and out. HOWEVER, I wouldn't hesitate to carry openly in my neighborhood. Really. We know our neighbors, and they know us. Guns shouldn't be a *hush, hush* taboo subject. Not everyone who owns a firearm is a "Gun Nut." We're just your average everyday law-abiding, tax paying citizens, who are properly trained in firearms, and aren't afraid to use them to defend ourselves if we have to. We will not be victims if there's any way to prevent it, and our neighbors should also not be afraid to come to us if they need help. Except for E22CAPT. He's scary. His latest sign for solicitors was a target with a 2-3" group on it that he wrote, "This is what you look like at 100 yds. NO SOLICITING." Don't worry... he didn't really hang it up. |

Mixed emotions on this topic. On the one hand an armed society is a polite society, and if your arm(s) are visible then even better; on the other hand if you don't dress respectably when open carrying then I think you're asking for potential hassles. Keep in mind that in North Las Vegas you can open carry but unless your open carry starts and stops at your residence i.e. no vehicle involved you'd better be aware of what their dangerous weapon law is. Yes, the dangerous weapon law was intended for those dirt bags down around D Street however, in reality the law applies to all of us. Guns in cars (even in the trunk) is where the "rub" comes in up at Norf-town. Get your CCW, it's not worth the hassle not having it. |
| I agree that open carry would be nice to do but I for one don't want the hassle of having to explain myself toa anyone and want to do what I need to and get home. Plus People tend to stare anyway and it makes me want to pokem in the eyes so why give them a reason to stare. If it were more common place then maybe the sheeple wouldn't have such a hissy fit about it. |

You open carry advocates do realize that it only takes ONE individual to call the police and report a "man with a gun" and you just spent your evening getting hassled. What's the point? "It's my right" blah, blah, blah....... None of you have obviously had to fight to retain your gun should someone decide they want to make your gun theirs. Not fun. Overt carry only draws attention. What is the real reason why you want to carry openly? Get a CCW. Remember, your sidearm is there to protect your life when you are in imminent danger of great bodily harm or death, not to prove a point or scare off the bad guys. If you are truly serious about carrying a gun then show your dedication by going through the process of learning about how to carry one legally and the ramifications of using it to defend your life. Speed, surprise, and violence of action is what will win a fight to defend your life. You give up some of the "surprise" element when you project to the world that you are carrying a gun. Believe me when I tell you that no criminal in Vegas is going to say "he's got a gun, better not mess with him!" It's more like "that dude has a gun, lets jump him when he rounds the corner!" If you are going to carry openly you should at least have a holster with a retention device and be schooled and well practiced in gun retention techniques. You should also have a less lethal means to end a fight or confrontation, say pepper spray. If all you have is a hammer everything becomes a nail. Sounds cheesy and cliche' but it's true. My apologies if I have gotten a bit off track of the original intention of the thread. |
I carry my Kimber ultra carry in a double retention holster, a knife, and a big German Shephard that will take care of business when told to, next to my side! My .45 would be the very last means of protection, and only if I could not get away. The Wet Backs don't know if I'm a cop or what because I am carring a gun, and thats just fine with me, I'm left alone, and the "hood" is a little cleaner. and no I don't act or pretend that I am a cop. As for them seeing my gun and wanting it to be theres, What? I think that one came from left field! |

There is such a thing a exercising your rights. If just 1/4 of the people that owned guns open carried them once a month (where it's legal) that would send a powerful message to the anti and libtard crowd and quite possibly get more law abiding citizens interested in guns. |

Mixed feelings on this topic as well. Of more concern to me than the "hassles" issue are the aforementioned loss of the element of surprise, and my complete lack of training on weapon retention. JMO, but if you are serious about open carry, spending the time/$$ on some weapon retention training is probably a good idea. Of course, if you are going to go that far, the CCW is no more trouble or expense... My solution was to get the CCW and not have to feel like the guy the BGs would kill first. bthp, get your CCW, then you can try both as the need arises. If you live in NLV, it is worth it just to avoid the car carry issues someone else mentioned. |

I live in Northern Virginia now, and lived in Utah while going to school. I carried concealed while living in Utah, but I open carry on a regular basis here in NoVA. NoVA is on a steady slide in to liberal bliss ninny land, but I hardly get a second look. I have yet to have any one say boo to me about it. If they did, I would just carry on w/ my day. There has been an issue here or there in NoVA, but the Virginia Citizens Defense League and the fine, upstanding, freedom-loving citizens of the area generally put things in the proper context for the damn unwashed masses & yankees around here. I am not sure what would be the big deal about open carrying in Las Vegas/Clark county outside of the Strip or the Fremont Street Experience. If I am incorrect, let me know why. Just asking. |
