I would just like to say thanks to the good Samaritan that got the license plate number of the white truck that hit my wife on Charleston. My wife was sitting at a light on Charleston at about 18:30 in the middle lane when a white pick up truck hit here from behind. The truck then took off before she could even get out of her car. Fortunately someone there chased the truck and came back with a license plate number(NV. 728RFY) and apologized for not being able to help more. I don't know who this gentlemen is but I hope he is a member here so that I can say THANK YOU. I dought that the NHP will do anything with this info but at least it gives me some where to start and maybe I can get answer as to why this asshole thinks that this is acceptable behavior. I am not even very angry I just don't like cowards. |
I was rear ended on Rampart and the guy took off. I chased him far enough to get his license # and backed off. I filled out a police report and since there were no injuries the police wouldn't do a thing about it, nothing. I was told the insurance company would track him down. No wonder it happens so often, I'm sure they are quite aware that there is a good chance that they will get away with no charges and it's worth a shot.

Metro has a 'Hit and Run' detail that tracks these things down. With a plate number, they will contact the owner of the vehicle and ask him/her to come in for questioning. I imagine that their caseload is huge, but at least the unit exists. Hopefully they'll get to yours. |
At least Metro will enter the car in a wanted system. They will impound and hold the car until the investigation is complete. NHP will not enter the car or impound it unless there is serious injury. They may have changed, but I have not heard that at all. |

If you can get your insurance agent to track them down, then perhaps you can weasel the address out of them. Then you can perhaps persuade the driver to compensate you for damages and I'd bet even apologize to your wife. The driver sounds careless and clumsy, hopefully he won't bang his head on the driveway, that'd be aweful. |
That's why you follow up to make sure the hit and run driver didn't bump his head. Then NHP can get involved. I am sure they'd love the publicity that comes out of that situation. "Um, yeah, we didn't actually investigate the hit and run, so the victim's husband tracked the guy down and pistol whipped him in front of the whole crew of day laborers and now we feel the need to step in." Nothing says ineffective like citizens doing the job that LEOs are supposed to be handling. Seriously, I would do all of the leg work myself. I have had to do the same sort of thing on a few occasions because of a lack of interest on the part of LEOs. No, there was no pistol whipping, but I reserve the right to consider all of my options. If you let them treat you this way, they will continue to shine this on. If you make a nuisance of yourself, they will eventually either give you satisfaction, or lock you up. Which again will make for great headlines. "Um, yeah, he kept expecting us to deal with this crime commited against him, so we put him in jail." |
That's not hard to believe, WP. All anyone has to do is read the newspaper and every time there is a fatal accident or an accident with severe injuries involving a drunk driver keep a written tally for a few months. What they'll find is that 90 percent of the time (yes I said 90 percent) the last name of the one at fault is Hispanic, they are here illegally, they are three times the legal BAC level, they have no insurance, and the accident was a hit and run. If you think I'm making this shit up try it. |

One of the old guys that works with us got rear-ended on LV Blvd last week so hard he cut his head open on the sun visor and it plowed him into the car in front of him. 3 Mexican scum in a Dodge pickup with AZ plates, the driver took off on foot before Ron could even get out of his car. But hey, they're all just good hard working folks trying to make a living. |
And they deserve immigration reform too. |
You're not making this shit up..... it's true. |
My God people, You have got to be shitting me! Am I the only one that refused to run when these dumb, drunk assholes decided to move into my neighborhood? I see this shit happening every day! It's normal for them. They love there Coke and Beer, and still think that they can drive! They piss in the street, love to hear the sound of breaking bottles, Kick there own car's just to here the alarm go off, They are to lazy to knock on a door, so they honk there horns until that person comes out, "that starts at about 5 am," and are always shoulder checking you at stores, or wherever your out numbered. If a mexican woman wants to cross the street, she pushes her baby buggy right into traffic! They don't give a fuck, they are breeding machines, and can always have more. I could go on all night about this, but I can't think straight because of the bump, bump, bump, from there stereo systems. Now, wheres my wrist-rocket and fishing weights!

Good luck with getting anything from the person who fled. I got hit a couple of years ago. Exchanged info. Guess what, the guy never did shit and refused to pay for my damages. I filled out the police report and guess what, nothing happened. So I call Farmers - IT IS THEIR MOST ITEMIZED INCIDENT IN NV. Sure, make a claim, we'll pay it but your insurance will go up. To make matters worse, NLVPD won't give you the asshole's address. I guess I'll pray for cancer or the death of his most prized loved one or pet. Sure I am malicious but this town did it to me I swear... Rant off V OUT |
No, I deal with the same shit. Hell I was home on R&R and went to my beloved Buffalo Wild Wings on Craig and it seemed overrun by these choads |
|
my spanish is actually getting pretty decent because none of these people will make an effort to acutally learn the language where they live. I've been to Mexico three times and I never spoke a word of english unless I couldn't figure out what I was trying to say. I respected the fact that I was in their country and I tried to speak their language. "When in Rome..." |
Don't feel bad..I have been here way too long. This town has made me the same way..Only in the past few years though.. |

I always tell my clients to get a) uninsured/underinsured coverage; and b) medical payment coverage. Unfortunately, even with our state minimums being only $15k, people still fail to obtain or maintain coverage, and YOU bear the brunt of their irresponsibility. WIth today's car prices, body shop prices, and medical costs, $15k doesn't amount to shit. Regarding the police report info, the cops don't want Joe citizen knocking on someone else's door to get compensated. However, when an attorney requests it, i almost never get redacted reports, and communication with the insurance companies is usually without issue. DMV also has a mechanism to enforce insurance issues, and will suspend Driver's Licenses when notified. Unfortunately, many of the drivers complained of in this thread don't drive with valid licenses anyway ![]() Variable, how long ago was the accident?
|
It's all such a fair and just system......Hell last week I get my registration for a vehicle do at the end this month that I never drive(Vw Bus) and than I check my Truck it expired last day of April,so I renew on line and call and am reassured that it's all legal to run my truck with expired tags because I renewed it![]() ![]() That and the fact my Renewal notice Never Flippin showed up but the other did and DMV has no reason why(Thanks Lorraine) to a address I changed over a year ago.I feel like a Goddamn Prisoner without that fricikin sticker that says I'm not a tag to be pulled over Justice go ahead tell me about it I'm still waiting(Rant over) |
The tags are overrated You really only need the registration paperwork in the car, so, that is where you would be screwed. Honestly, DMV usually updates them right away. I have been close or late before, and a check showed they were updated As for the expiration stickers, there isn't a law saying where or that they are even supposed to be placed on the license plate, yet DMV says they must be on there. |
Were you found liable for the accident? Your rates shouldn't go up unless you were principally at fault i.e. 51% or more. NV is a comparative negligence state. NV insurance policy's are cooky because of the risks the insurance companies have to underwrite. I agree with Chiz, get Med Pay and Uninsured/Underinsured motorists insurance. |
The latest insurance scheme that i'm seeing is that you won't necessarily have your rates increase, but you won't receive rate rebates if you make claims. Every other year or so I've receive pretty sizable rebates for not making claims, the most being $750--not bad when i'm paying $1600 a year for 2 drivers and 2 cars. |
Thanks,The DMV person was most reassuring that I'm good to go.I still want the tag and paper so I'm Mr.Compliant As for the original post,,,,it sux when your trying to do the right thing and some Jerk crosses your path. It's still good to hear there are folks out there that give a Damn and willing to help in a time of need |
I agree that is so much easier to go to the kiosk and do the transaction,,far faster than the Internet offer from Nevada DMV |

The way people drive in this town is one reason I upgraded from a Jeep Cherokee to an F-350 crew cab long bed. It's 22 feet long and weighs in at 7600 lbs. Some shitbird wants to rear end me, he's got 8 feet of frame rails and running gear before he can get to my daughter's car seat. And from the side there is two-and-a-half feet from the sheet metal to her. When parking, my wife likes to make comments along the lines of, "We're pulling into port!" Parking garages are tricky but require patience. |
Are there accident attorneys out here in NV attempting to "stack" policy's to maximize the settlement? |
You meaning utilizing whatever means necessary to compensate their legitimately injured client? Absolutely. However, asking for and getting are two very different things. |
That would drive me crazy.
