If your backflow valve has "popped" due to the recent freezing temperatures, you can expect to pay >$350 to get it replaced by your plumber. I felt this was a bit expensive for a $70 part so I did some research. I found a repair kit for $49 shipped and will do the work myself, looks simple enough! Mine was a Wilkins 720-A Pressure Vacuum Breaker -1/2". If it is ok by the moderators, I'll post the link to the store (*no affiliation*).

edited to add: The repair kit consists of everything inside of the body and the bonnet (black thing on top) so you don't have to do any actual pipe work.

Popped mine my first winter here

The repair cost was $125.

They never billed me, despite me calling to remind them twice.

Bottom line: Free!

I ordered a repair kit today from USA Backflow Product.com for $48+sh.  Retail price for a new one is $115.  Think I could replace the whole thing, but a pain, so just ordered the repair kit.  We'll see how good of a plumber I am when it arrives, ha!!

I'm having a casita built, and had the ole pop off leading to a 15' gusher.  I was able to turn the water off to just that line, luckily, and since the casita is under construction, the builder got to fix it

That's why my Casita was built the same time the main house was!!  Course, I didnt have a choice anyway, since I was in WA!  That repair kit probably wont get here until I have left for Aruba here soon.

I'm a plumber. However, we only repair these for people within the company.....we usually only do casinos, hospitals and industrial work.

I was told that one company in town had over seven hundred calls on these things. There are several different brands and all of the supply houses are out of all parts for all brands.

GO INTERNET, DO THE BEST YOU CAN .....GOOD LUCK
