Does anyone think there is an issue of being in a database when you manufacture or take possesion of a NFA firearm (SBR, SBS, can, etc.)? Is the tax stamp transaction just a paperwork formality or are you now on the hook, per se? On the same subject, when you purchase a handgun or rifle, you do the background check and the form 4473(?) is filled out, is there a database for that also in Nevada? Will there ever be a Katrina collect all personal firearms since there is a riot going on type situation here (I know that a Federal(?) law was passed prohibiting just that, but the questions still stands)? _ |

I have 6 nfa items and I'm looking to get more. I have no problem being in a "database". It is a popular misconception the ATF can come at anytime and demand to see your NFA items. When you sign the form 3 or 4 you don't sign away any rights. If the ATF came knocking at my door I would ask for a search warrant and also ask "why". It is a choice you have to come to grips with. I accepted it a long time ago. as for the 4473 question, supposedly the information at the NVDPS/POS is destroyed after 72 hours (I think). I know for a fact the only time an agent comes to look for any forms is when they are conducting an audit/inspection or looking for proof of criminal wrongdoing. I know if I have passed any bad info in regards to the background check I will be corrected. Mark |
The federal governement is forbidden by law to maintain electronic databases of firearms owners. The NFA is a paper/microfiche system. State governments have no restrictions, unless they have a similar law. I'd be far more worried about having a CCW permit, but if it comes to what you describe, it won't be concealed... |
Thanks. I'm fairly certain of going the NFA route for an AR build and was wondering aloud. So even during another round of an assault weapons ban your current inventory would become pre-ban and legal?

Hello... I work for the BATF and we will be over later to inspect this "unknown" stuff thanks, Ron |

I have many, many friends that have NFA items and I do not know one, NOT ONE person that has had BATFE knock their door down (or even knock on their doors) in the middle of the night to terrorize them and their families. I am sure that the above has happened, but I don't think it is the norm and the whole NFA/BATFE scare is more hype than reality. Just my 2 pennies on the issue. ETA: No offense to Texans, but if I lived in Texas, I would be more afraid of these guys than any Federal agency.... Dallas SWAT |
