Is that stuff easy to get locally? I've got a $750 check coming and I need a new piece and I was thinking about looking into something that takes it. Then I realized that I dont think I've ever seen it around town (not like I was looking) who carries it and how does the price compare to ACP? Thanks! |

actually, I saw an article on the Springfield Defender which is .45 GAP and it sparked my intrest. I'm about 75% sure I'm gonna get a 1911, but wanted something less than full size. My dad has a Kimber Ultra Carry and I love it. I dont have small hands, but just want something that's smaller because I am having trouble concealing anything and being comfortable. I dont want to do the hawaiian shirt thing, becuase that's just not for me. |

Gap is a decent cartridge, and it is readily available but you're going to pay for it.. Gap runs about $15.00-$17.00 a box/50 fmj, .45acp in comparison runs about 4-5 dollars less per 50rds. I would skip it and stick with cheaper/more abundent semi auto cartridges like 9mm, .40S&W or .45acp.. Might look at the new compact XD .45acp or something like Ultra or Micro Compact line from Springer, or other similar mfgers comparable products.. John P.. |
DING! a big +1 on the "Wal-Mart test" ![]() even .357 Sig is more common than .45 GAP... AND the with the Sig round, you can swap barrels and run plain ol' .40. |
Absolutely Correct, The gun and the round (.45 GAP) was created "just for girls." I would hate to hear about a female officer getting into a gunfight with a GAP pistol and running out of ammuntition when having a fellow officer in the same gunfight with a G21 with spare available mags, and not being able to get her gun back up and running. JMO. Be Safe. Joe ETA: No offense to female officers. |
From everything I've read, the .45 GAP has duplicated the performance of .45ACP, but in a smaller case, and allowed the slimming of the handgun. Perhaps you meant "created for people with smaller hands", or "created for people who want a slimmer gun"? However, I do agree that it is an offbeat caliber for the time being. |
I am only quoting what the rep at the Glock booth told me at the S.H.O.T. Show two years ago. He specifically said that the round was created for "girls." Maybe that was his personal opinion, but physically (last time I checked) women have smaller hands than men... thus the creation of the round and the gun. PS: Please don't shoot the messenger on this one. |
| I always thought the GAP was more for European shooters than us here in America. People love .45s. That's a fact. Trouble is in a lot of Eurotrash countries you can't own hanguns in "military calibers." Thus, why you see 9x21 Glock 17s. The .45 GAP was created for those people in Eurotrash countries so that they could have a .45. Sure they tried to market it here, but like I said, I don't think it was for us. |
HAH! Girly men. No offense to any girly men. I understand you like manicures and pink underwear. It just isn't for me. Warning: this post may only be funny to me. With the price and availability of it why not just go with 10mm or .40? |
Let's not forget the ego motivator: Get Gaston's name on a cartridge. Everybody else has it, S&W, Ruger, Remington, Winchester, Federal, Colt, NAA, SIG, etc. First it was Win NT brass with it's small primer pocket. Now I've got some new euro-trash casing to watch out for when separating brass. Springfield has an XD in .45 Short (GAP) but they appeared to have crippled it from the get-go. The .45 ACP XD has a mag capacity of 13, while the GAP model only has a mag capacity of 9. The latest compact XD offering is in .45 ACP. I don't see Springfield cataloging the .45 Short chambering in the long run. Maybe in Europe it's all the rage where .45 ACP is verbotten because it is/was a military cartridge. After having compared my .45 ACP chronograph results against published results of the same style factory fodder in the Glock cartridge, I didn't see any major difference. The Glock cartridge is supposed to operate at the same pressure limit as as .45 ACP +P. In theory the Glock cartridge should run the same as any +P ACP loading, and leave the non +P loadings far in its wake. But it just doesn't work out that way. Internal ballistics aren't always cut and dry. Slight variations in pressure curves can yield considerable differences. While many GAP loadings in the 185 grain loadings run slightly (50 fps approximately) faster than standard pressure ACP loadings, the GAP starts to flatten out and runs about the same with the ACP in the 200 and 230 grain loadings. +P ACP loads step close to 90 fps faster than the GAP loadings in similar weights. I really don't see the .45 Glock/GAP/Short offering any new capabilities. The .40 S&W offers has more energy on target than Glock's new chambering. Plus .40 S&W ammo costs much less and is much more widely available. Not to mention the selection of guns chambered in .40 S&W far outstrips the GAP. |

whats that suposta mean?????
