I and my son will be taking trip out west this summer. We plan to stop in Reno for a day to stock up before hitting the Black Rock Desert for a week of ghost town (and other things) hunting. Question: Can you buy beer in the Walmarts in Reno like we can here in Alabama? Another side question: Anybody know of or has stayed at the Soldier's Meadow Ranch and Lodge? Thanks, Merlin |

Last year, when I worked at The Stalag (our affectionate aphorism for said store in question), I had some yahoo out-of-towners get all gawky and amazed that we actually stocked not only beers but hard liquor. I was on the overnight crew, meaning we started up at 2330 hours, so this was around midnight when these eighth-wits came into the store and starting raising a ruckus. I was asked if they could actually buy the liquor that was on display. I asked them if they were "from fucking Mars or something?" They were dumbfounded that they could buy alcohol at anytime. I was amazed that there are still places here in this Union in which you cannot buy alcohol anytime. |
We'll be coming in from Death Valley on our way to the Black Desert. It's been +16 years since I've been to Reno and the BRD and I didn't to make any assumptions or worse, pay the used-to-be-confiscatory prices at Gerlach. Thanks, Merlin |
