Well, looks like I'm finally escaping from the Caliban. I convinced the wife that a move out of Kahlefornistan is in our best interests. (I've actually been plotting my escape since I moved here 8 years ago!) We're looking at the Gardnerville/Minden/Carson City Area...maybe Reno. I'm trying to get a transfer at work; if that doesn't work, I guess I'll start over somewhere else. I'd like to get back into the NFA stuff is one county more lenient than the other for LEO sign off? How about CCW...I'm an NRA Instructor, Marine, and have a Florida CCW permit...do I need to take a local course as well? Feels good to be heading back to America! |

For CCW you will need to get a NV CCW as NV does not honor any other states' CCW cards. You will need to apply for the CCW in the county that you reside in (although I believe the class can be taken anywhere in the state). Really not an issue for those living outside of Clark County as other counties have much shorter turn-around times than Clark. Glenn |
The Nevada Chiefs' and Sheriffs' Association now requires that you take training in the County in which you intend to apply. If no training is available in that County, then the training may be taken in an adjacent county. Seems that there were some "instructors" doing a $200 pencil-whipping class in less than two hours, and some students were taking advantage of that, taking the "class" and then shopping around for a Sheriff to issue the permit. I know that's contrary to the NRS, but that's they way they've set it up. |
Clark County, (Las Vegas), is pretty much a rubber stamp approval when it comes to the CLEO signoff... VERY friendly. I don't have any first hand information about other areas of the state. Good luck and welcome! |

Bring plenty of cash. Thanks to every homo...er, sorry, homeowner, moving in from California, real estate is off the charts here. Of course, by my definition, off the charts is in the $200K+ region, so YMMV. Also, I have heard that Douglas County's sheriff is the only guy around who refuses the CLEO on occasion, and I can verify that he refused mine based on some extraneous BS that has long since been cleared up. Jarheads are pretty close knit around here, being about 40 minutes from the Mountain Warfare Training Center. Lots of retired military and LEOs as well. What do you do for work? Good luck and welcome (as usual, the more good folks move here, the less room for the...uh..undesirables) |

Thanks guys. Looks like Reno, it is! Any good shops in the area...I've stopped by a few and selection was better than what I've seen in years...except for one place where the owner was too busy gobbing off about the ballgame to his buddies to answer questions. Do you get your license same day at DMV like the rest of america or is it the 90-180 day farce like the kaliban does? |
From one Marine to another, Welcome and Semper Fi !! |

I'm not from cali...just ended up exiled there! Someone told me..."If you leave you won't be able to afford to come back" I said, "Shit...why would I come back? Like a dog returning to eat his own sick?" I'm going to make a buttload of money from selling my other house (made a killing off selling 1 + some land already!) not one dime of it is going back to the caliban! If their goal is to drive the red blooded conservative gun owner's out of there who love America...they're doing a bang up job! I tried to fight the good fight for the past 8 years...but I only saw things go from bad to worse! Fuck that place! Buncha damn sitzpinklers! |
I just escaped as well. I love Nevada, and I will never go back. People here for the most part are more courteous and respectful to you. I am in Reno right now, and even for a average size city, it is great. I grew up out here and I have come home you could say. Screw California. Northern Nevada is the spot. |
| I must agree, Northern Nevada is pretty darn good. I live in BFE (AKA Eureka), and love it. Only problem is I am about 110 miles from anything really (unless you count in Ely). I have lived in Elko and Eureka since Dec. of 1990 after my dad got a job with one of the mines. I can't see myself moving anywhere else, I just love Nevada!! I can do just about anything I want, and not have anyone harrassing me to looking at me strange because I am carrying a gun down Main Street!! Even though it is quite rural, and the lifestyle is nice, it is fun to get over to Reno or Vegas every now and then. |

Southern_Raider Not exactly software...but with the same company. Doing a different type of job...but with the same pay and able to keep all the bennies, etc I've racked up here the past 7 years (vacation, 401k, pension plan, etc) Having a Senior VP who is a retired Marine has it's advantages when you put in for a transfer! hug.gif |
Holy crap! I knew I recognized your user ID. I had to change my email just now (the one I had is no longer around.) Re send it when you get the chance. Nice to have you here! We will have to hook up with the Ding-Dong squad (lol) and go shoot sometime soon. |
