We are fine this weekend. I checked the duty roster for BLM LE for this weekend. None of the Rangers I know are working on Saturday but they have been notified we will be out there and everything is cool. Caver (and anyone else who wants to go), Lets get together soon and finally check out the shooting area in Jean. This is already designated for shooting. The only potential problem is schedule conflicts with other groups. There are also some areas near the Pit that might work for us too. Ranger Navarro told me would scout some places out for us. I scouted the road south of the pit last weekend. There are aome areas but they are not as suited as the pit but it looks like we will not have a choice. There is a plateau suth of there with plenty of distance for shooting, but we will have to find a better way to get there. To get up the hill I put the truck into 4wheel and the road south of the pit will not allow for cars. from looking atthe areials that I could find there appears to be a road in from Las Vegas blvd. I did not find any areials on the clark county GIS fo the area. I agree with Caver that we need to see if this is written in stone or can it be changed. |
I'm personally not even certain of the legality of what they are doing. Do they technically have the right to say "No shooting", while ATV and other access is still permitted? Are our legal rights being violated? Does metro have ANY jurisdiction over there on BLM land? I'm concerned that even if we find an area further down but along the same road as the pit, we're still going to be harassed by metro. I perfectly understand if there was an issue of safety, but the pit area has to be the safest place to shoot I've EVER seen anywhere. Safer than many outdoor ranges I've been to. I want the rangers to understand that at least I will personally assist in any clean up, improvement, whatever is required at either the pit or anywhere else we find that is safe and convenient to shoot. Anyway, I'm thinking about how I should approach our reps. -Caver |
