I decided it is time to start hiking again. I headed over to the Ice age trail just north of West Bend. Damn I forgot how much up and down is in the Kettle Moraine Northern unit.
Man I am out of shape.

I decided years ago I would like to hike the whole trail. I have done bits and pieces over the years. Life and bad knees got in the way. Knees have been replaced and life is settling down so I decided to start hiking again. I decided to try and finish the Northern unit trails. I have from Green Bush down to county S ( I believe it is) done. Do you know if the Ice age Trail through West Bend allows dogs?
I like to hike with our Elkhounds. |

Took this just the other day right in front of Holy Hill. I grew up in the area and man do I miss it.

I often jog from the trailhead on Paradise to ridgerun park over lunch. There are lots of dogs on the trail. whether they are supposed to be or not, I don't know. There are lots of signs for no horses, bikes, or motorized vehicles. |

While I don't often get out to Westbend, I frequently hike the Waukesha/Eagle/Palmyra area and I do see a good amount of people with their dogs on the trails. At any rate, I'm glad to hear that you decided to start hiking again. I think we can all agree that this state has some of the best trails around. |

Have you done the northern parts of the Ice Age trail? I used to hunt off it, and it runs about a mile from our Deer camp. I have done sections of the trail. I have hiked through Pottawatomie state park south, parts of Sturgeon bay. Picked up the trail a little south of there for a couple of miles. Then from Green bush south to S. Picked up about 5 miles this week around Kewaskum. I have hiked from Delafield to just shy of White water. I also have all of the trail around the Devils lake area. There are a couple of other sections I have done. I don't have my records handy though. |

The Dane Drifters have certified me! Got a patch and a piece of paper stating I've completed all 35 miles in Dane County. We've also hiked other counties, Columbia, Sauk and parts way north......... What did you need to do to get certified? Are there any other groups doing certifications? |
| Ice age trail is nothing. We went to TN and did some hiking. Map showed some nice waterfall as being 2.5 mi each way. 5mi should be nothing, right? That's 5mi as the crow flies. Mountain terrain kicked our butts. On the way back we were dragging tale and sweating like pigs. It was a pretty waterfall though. |
| There is waterfall in Yellowstone National Park ( think is the Yellowstone river falls). is a 2 hour walk down hill. There are no toilets at the bottom, it is all down hill. You see the people doing a forced march up hill to get to a toilets. It is a great view. |
