Moving back to WI soon. Currently live 20minutes from at range that is pretty awesome. I am really looking for some good ranges in the area. When I say good range I mean no Fudd crap.
I'm coming from a range where only a select few of us well trained guys get to shoot at night. Running drills, moving shooting, steel, you name it we do it. We shoot year round no matter the temp.

Is there anything in WI that is half way decent maybe?

If not I will really have to consider my own range but that's a few years down the road.

Heck for that matter any suggestions on where to move to? Wife wants a nice neighborhood with sidewalks and parks.

I think you'll have to wait for your own range to do that stuff. I don't know of any ranges that allow movement like you want. Many private ranges don't allow rapid fire, or even drawing from a holster.

http://sheboyganrifleandpistol.org/  has a waiting list for membership
http://www.farmerssportsmens.org/ is an expensive fudd club
http://www.vikingbowandgun.com/ is the best option locally, but thanks to some idiots a few years ago we now have rules against full auto and 50bmg. Ranges close at dusk too.

I belong to Sheboygan Rifle and Pistol.
Yes it is a members only club. Yes we do have a few Fudds. We also have a few members we need to get
rid of. We have spent a LOT of money improving the range, and we still have a few who simply will
not abide by the rules, and act in a common sense manner.

Do NOT shoot at the concrete wall separating the 50 yard range from the 100/200 yard range.
Do NOT bring an old computer to the range, shoot it up and leave it for others to clean up.

As far as some of our rules, we are trying to be good neighbors so we can continue to have a place to shoot.
If this means we shoot only during daylight hours, we feel it is not a big deal.  However, we do allow shooting from
holsters. (At least as far as I know. We do have students shoot from holsters during our classes)

We also have a variety of different types of shooting matches during the year if anyone is interested.
Just check our website for which one and when.

Thanks to everyone who have posted.
I'm sure I will try a match at the Sheboygan club just to see the type of people. I pretty particular about who I shoot with. Also looks like the Viking club maybe the best to go to, not interested in waiting in a line membership fees are small. Not to interested in a place that has a bar though usually brings the wrong crowd.

Anyway I'll check those places out thanks guys.

Anyone know anything about the range in Omro? Seems some good names in the training biz go there?

Avoid the Tuesday night trap league and Viking should be no problem. That and special events are about the only time the bar is open.

Viking is good, but there's a reason it's a "BOW and gun club". Seems like the ranges are secondary to what they really do there. Not complaining, just the reality of it.

If you can plan out your range days due to the ranges being shut down half the time for events, a pretty decent club. I have, however seen some really weird shit there lately. Like people shooting .22's when folks are walking back from their targets. Last two sessions, i packed my shit and left for my own safety.

I only go after hunting season and through winter into early spring.

Well that's not cool at all.
People will be real surprised when I shoot back.

Eventually (maybe a few years) I want to open a range.

I just don't understand how people think standing still and plinking at a target is improving yourself for the edc situations that may come up. We need to get our ranges modernized. The trap shooting crowd doesn't seem to quite get it. Oh well.

Lorax if you had people shooting while you were down range first tell them to stop fucking doing that!  Then get their names and or licsense plate numbers and report them to the club - they will be kicked out for doing something like that.

I'm to the point there, that if I roll up and someones using the range, I just go home. I live really close, so if it's being used or the range is closed for one of the 3 million other reasons that day, it's no big deal. I now only go when the people have long stopped thinking of going to the range. I bring a thermos and sometimes, some snowshoes to make a nice path to the target areas. I clean up everyone else's mess and enjoy the day.

I will never be found there from June-November.

I hear you about the range being closed due to other events but it's seemed to get a lot better in the last year or so.  They didn't have close it for the youth hunt this year but they're still closing the ranges for the whole firearm and muzzle loader season.  I wonder how many people actually hunt there that warrants closing the range for three weeks straight?  I'm leaving for Oklahoma on December 2nd for a deer hunt and will not be able to shoot for over 2 weeks before so that a couple guys (maybe) can deer hunt there.

Wow, I didn't realize there were any members THIS local to me! I've been toying with the idea of joining viking myself for a while. In fact I do most of my shooting at a friends house just a few minutes away, but I lack the ability do to anything past 50 or 60 yards there.

Viking is a very nice range but they've got strict on what you can shoot - no steel - because there were idiots who were shooting at everything and bouncing bullets into houses 1/2 mile behind the range,  It was either that or be shut down.

One has to admit, that they handled that situation very well and threw a ton of $ into improvements to satisfy the parties involved. All because of trespassing non members too.
