Heading up tomorrow for an overnighter at the VA. I love cheese curds and burgers. I was born in Milwaukee and have high standards (for burgers, literally nothing else )

I don't care about any cuisines.

Also if anyone wants to get lunch and bullshit hit me up.

The Eagle Crest Bar has a pretty good bacon cheeseburger. LOTS of bacon.

I've only eaten burgers one place there and it was at Kopp's as recomended by a friend.

It's a sloppy greasy mess of a thing in a takeout restaurant environment but it was great.

1. Dottys - http://www.dottydumplingsdowry.com/ - By far my favorite.

2. The Nitty Gritty has a downtown and west side location. - Used to be very good, last few times their buns were a little dry.

If you want pizza, I LOVE Pizza Bruta. Check it out for sure.

Fast foodish-culvers. Made from fresh beef, not frozen. Not stored under heat lamps.

Culvers and kopps are good, but we've got both down here.

So far I'm looking at that dumplingdowry joint as primary and eagle crest as backup (or maybe lunch next day before return)

I practically live at the one in Milwaukee looking for local non chain or franchise joints. But thanks. I would be surprised if anywhere has better curds than them though.

The Blue Moon Bar and Gill has by far the best burgers in town. It is on University Ave. less than a mile from the VA.

The Nitty Gritty has good burgers.  There's one downtown Madison and in Sun Prairie.  If you're out that way there's Buck and Honeys that has good burgers as well.

Goddamnit, VA just called and cancelled my appointment. Apparently their tech can't make it in due to weather. Rescheduled to February.

I have been to just about every burger joint in Madison. A few weeks ago some friends took me to Gray's Tied House, It is right outside of Madison in Verona. By far the best Burgers I have had anywhere near Madison. Cheese curds and onion rings are exceptional also. You can tell these people use good fresh product. Prices are great too. I highly reccommend this place.

Agreed.  They also use high quality meat.  If you want it rare, they will give it to you extra rare!  Good stuff.  Only bad part is cash only, no credit, but they have an ATM.

The house burger from Old Fashioned is also tops.

I will add Madison's bar downtown on King St. has a great burger too.  They are posted evenings, but not before 5pm.

Really?
Twice now, I walked in for a delicious burger.  I checked the door and no CCW prohibited sign.  But on my way out, BAM, giant sign plain as day on the door.

When you go for your VA appointment in February go to The Old Fashioned on Pickney St and get this:

No. 30
The Old Fashioned House Burger-grilled over a live fire and topped with fried onions, Bavaria’s hickory-smoked bacon, aged Cheddar, garlic sauce and a soft-cooked egg on a buttered and toasted roll.

you'll thank me later

The Jet Room up at the General Aviation Terminal at Truax Field had some pretty good burgers last time I was up there.  Plus you can watch the ramp while you dine.

Wait a minute...Kopp's as in the Kopp's custard places in Milwaukee?  Is it the same thing in Madison?  If it is, I didn't know they had one in Madison and my trip to the liberal haven in March just started looking a little better.
