I didn't read the reviews but it says 3 hour route. So where do they park while the overnight guests sleep? That could be good or bad for a lot of reasons.
I have done a few Amtrak trips including LA to Chicago and back (route in movie Silver Streak) and IMHO it is fun when the train keeps on going through the night. Double decker cars are fun and you do tend to hang out and talk with people. I think a dinner and ride through Northern Wisconsin would be neat if you go when the sun is still up in the evening or maybe a night when there is a full moon. |

Checked the location, north of Spooner. I didn't know there were any tracks left intact north of U.S. Hwy 8. I've never seen any, all the old railroad beds where rails once ran for logging trains, are now recreational trails... tracks all ripped up and gone. Last tracks left run east-west, along side Hwy 8. I'm guessing it goes in a big circle, like a giant Lionel. |

I had the info right here in my travel info stack of stuff of interest I pick up. Lumberjacksteamtrain.com. I think the OP has the dinner train I have heard of before. |

If you look at the brochure it says it takes you out for dinner and then you come back and sleep at the station, can enjoy a camp fire and roam around the station...

That reminds me of this one that I've wanted to do for a while. They used to have a deal where they would drop you off in the wilderness where they had a car outfitted to sleep in. You would "camp" for a week or so. Can't find it on the site now. This is something I'd like to see both in fall and winter. http://www.agawacanyontourtrain.com/content/tours/canyontour/index.html |
