Gander Green Bay was supposed to be having a 4 day ammo sale starting today and going through Sunday as a counter to the Cabelas Grand Opening. They had in over 1 million rounds of .22lr alone. They had bulk packs up to 1K rounds. Some Einstein allowed individuals to purchase up to 10K rounds each. The same thing went for .223/5.56 1K bulk packs. Needless to say, it only lasted a couple of hours today according to what I was told when I arrived. I did not get off of work until almost 7PM and I was not concerned because the sales staff told me earlier in the week that there would be so much ammo that it would last, not knowing that management would allow a couple of individuals to purchase it all. The sales staff reportedly watched as families of 3 or more members and groups of friends each walked out with their 10K rounds each. The sales staff said that they wanted to limit it but upper management would not let them....
I can not express how pissed I am....
Cabelas limited each person to 1 brick of 500 per day and will be getting in more .22 ammo as the week goes on. |

Were the sale prices reasonable though? Remember, ganders price is usually high anyway. Not that I'll ever do business with them again anyway. |

so you thought gander changed... ll They have been limiting ammo sales for the past few months like everyone else and then someone who has no clue decides to to something as absolutely stupid as this. There was a corporate limit for this event of 10 boxes for small boxes of ammo, but some genius failed to keep a smaller quantity limit for bulk packs. |

So now a thread complaining that Gander didn't ration...ammo. Yep.. Gander Green Bay Deliberately stockpiled ammo in anticipation for the Cabelas Opening in order to get customers to shop at Gander. They then blew their wad like a teenage boy for the first customers to walk through the door and therefore screwed the rest of the customers coming in for the next 3 days expecting a reason to walk through the door...
I am waiting for the "Yay!!! I just bought 40K rounds at Gander Mountain and am going to try and sell it for a profit on Armslist and Gunbroker!! Gander Mountain Rocks!!!!!" thread... |

No wonder I can't find so much as a 50rnd box around here. Guy at the LGS told me they've had .22LR (6 differant brands) on backorder for 7 months, and if they see ANY in the next 6 months, he'll be shocked. Yet Gander can get it's hands on 1 million rounds.
How can Cabelas keep track of who bought what in a given day? It's likely one box per person per transaction. Pay cash, go put it in your car, go back get another one, go to a differant cashier. |

Scheels watches for "repeat" customers in the same day. They actually limit to 1 brick per group. If they see a family or a group of friends together, they will curtail the group purchases. I saw a guy fill up a basket and hand it out to family and friends to go through the register and a manager came up and took it all away except for 1 brick. I would expect Cabelas to at least try and limit each person from multiple daily purchases the best they can. |

Change shirts & hats after each purchase. Not giving lessons to hoarders. But if I were to drive 150 miles to get there, I'd certainly do everything I could to come back with more than one. People who live close by can go everyday and get their "one"... when you don't live nearby, you improvise. I'd do the same thing at Fleet Farm, as the nearest one of those is 60 miles away. And there is nothing else, except Walmart. |
