I just got done building a 1911 for myself. It was a pain in the butt but its finally done.
I did use a used slide and barrel but it shoots wonderfully. KTO frame, Remington Rand slide & Barrel, and lots of Ed Brown parts!! I parkerized it without going black cause I wanted to grey look.

I'm not a huge 1911 guy. However, I can tell that's a beautiful gun too. And you did your own parkerizing job? Outstanding!
I've only got one in my stable, a Springfield Milspec. I inherited it, and it's GI details, and the teeny sights make me love it less than I might otherwise. And I know even less about building/assembling a 1911. However, there is one thing that intrigues me. I've always kind of liked the "spacegun/Blade Runner sort of look the guns with the full-length dustcovers/rails. (so sue me, sometimes I'm superficial or vain when it comes to guns... )
However, the guns that had that look, such as the Springfield TRP, or some of the STI's, the Infinity guns etc, they catch my eye, however those options cost way more than I'm ever going to spend for a 1911. That much cash, I'd be doing some sort of NFA project etc. Is there a way to build on a budget a 1911 with the full length dustcover and some of the "racegun" looks that's functional and decent, even if some 1911 aficionado or competitive racegun shooter would turn their nose up at it? |

The only way to do it on a budget is to simply buy a full length dust cover Armscorp like this for hicap or this for single stack. You couldn't buy a Fusion FL dustcover frame and slide for what you could buy the entire gun for. Fusion's FL dustcover isn't railed, either. Certainly couldn't build an STI/SVT anywhere near the price. How long have you been sitting on the KT frame OP? Is that the brazed/soldered version? Is he still in business? |

I bought the frame from a guy that has had it for years and never done anything with it. It looks like they are still in business.
This is the brazed frame, I probably would not pic another one with doing parkerizing because you can see the line, but the frame is really well built and the fit for parts is spot on. |

That's what I was curious about. I remember when he came out with those on the Roderus forums and they looked very well done. Vacuum brazed IIRC so the most minimum parting line possible. |
