Hey guys,,,,wife and I are going to be in your fine state in August. What are the must see things to do in Wisconsin? We like fishing, antiquing, great food and of course shooting. We are coming to the Talesin ( sp) home of Frank Lloyd Wright and will be in a  32 ft. travel trailer with our Boxerdog. On the front end of the trip will be a long range tactical match for my son followed by fishing in Canada then back for another match in Tennesee. We will then begin the drive to Wisconsin and don`t really have a time limit ( we are retired).

TIA

I highly suggest the EAA Air museum in Oshkosh, a tour of Lambeau Field and Packers Hall of Fame in Green Bay or better yet a game if you can score tickets.  Copper Falls State Park in the Northern most part of the state has some beautiful scenery as well as Devil's Lake State Park in the south central part of the state.  If you're are a drinker of good beer, the New Glarus Brewery in the southern part of the state (New Glarus, WI) is a great tour and Leinenkugel Brewing has locations in Eau Claire, WI (Western part of the state)

Speaking of beer, make sure you buy a six pack or 5 of New Glarus Spotted Cow.  It is excellent beer and extremely difficult to find out side of WI and the midwest from what I've been told by friends living in different areas of the country.  Take some back to enjoy while in Texas.

There will be others along with more stops for you to visit.  Hope you enjoy our state.

Sorry, but I gotsa bitch slap ya for supporting New Glarus Brewery. The beer is good but the Libtard owner is a huge Obama supporter.
Other beers are just as good if not better, anyway.

But back to the topic:
Hit the House on the Rock while you're near Taliesin and like that kind of interesting architechture.
The Wisconsin River has some good fishing.

If you like scenery, hiking etc. check out Devil's Lake State Park in Sauk County. Rough trails if you're not in good shape, though.  Good fishing there too. Sauk County, where I live is one of the more scenic regions in Southern Wisconsin, IMO.
Natural Bridge State park is kinda cool, too.

Wisconsin Dells is very "touristy" but kinda interesting.  Pretty crowded this time of year, though.
Stay away from Madison and Milwaukee unless you happen to love Detroit or Chicago.

Door County has a very Eastern Seaboard-type appeal to it and is very popular among visitors for lighthouse tours, fine dining, shopping, beaches etc, but I've never been there myself. The cherry orchards are supposedly gorgeous, at least in the Springtime (?)

Thanks for the heads up on New Glarus.  Did not know that.

Also completely forgot about Door County.  It is beautiful up there this time of year through fall.  It'll be busy but well worth the trip.

The first three stops are all right in the same "area" so that's also a plus.  Door County is full of Fibs and big Fib money, out of the way, crowded and a tourist trap.  It's pretty, but might not be worth the drive.

There are about 50 good breweries in WI now so New Glarus isn't that special anymore.  It IS like supporting one of Bloomberg's companies as far as political stuff goes.  If you pass through Dane County or near it, check out the Ale Asylum stuff (Hopalicious mainly, but others too).  But, pretty much any local area has a local brewery (ask the locals) and you can go there or get some beer at the gas station.

Heading north though Minnesota, the trip straight north on I39 takes you past some good stuff in WI.  The drive through nothern WI and Superior then Duluth is some interesting countryside.

Just be cautious of EAA Museum.  Don't try to go there during the EAA event or you won't be able to get within 15 miles.  Go before or after the event by a week or more.

As long as you'll be in the Spring Green area, you should hit up The House on the Rock.  I've been there more than a handful of times throughout my life and the place still amazes me every time.  It is well worth an afternoon.

If you like motorcycles, teh harley museum is in milwaukee.   That said, if you like motorcycle, I'd heavily suggest you bring one with you too, you'll find yourself in Sauk County, some of the best roads in teh state.

The Leinie's museum and brewery is in Chippewa Falls, WI, not Eau Claire.  Just drove by it a week ago.

Stop by in Wisconsin Dells just to play a few rounds of mini golf.  They have the most mini golf courses in the world in that area, plus other stuff as well.

Plan for an entire day at the House on the Rock.  The house tour will take 30 minutes to an hour, but the museum will eat up the rest of the day and is more than worth it.

In Neilsville you can visit an awesome veterans memorial called the High Ground.  Worth stopping at if you are near.

Amnicon Falls State Park and Pattison Park are great quick stops on your way to Duluth.  High waterfalls and scenery.

Iron River has a small winery that makes Mead.

If you have lots of time, the south shore of Lake Superior in northern WI is a great place to spend a few days in August.  Lots of things to see and miles and miles of white sand beaches.

Another fun way to kill an afternoon in pleasant fashion is a tour of Cave of The Mounds; fascinating, beautiful underground geology and natural history tour in western Dane County. Only about a half-hour drive from Spring Green, Taliesen, H.O.T.R.
Great cool way to spend a hot, muggy afternoon. Might even want to bring a light jacket or long-sleeve shirt, and wear good comfortable tennis or light hiking shoes for that one. It's not a grueling hike or anything, but there will be some mildly sloping, wet sidewalk-type walkways, IIRC.

The Old Feed Mill restaurant in Mazomanie off Hwy 14 is a pretty nice place to eat. Not real cheap but thirty bucks gets you a great meal, good drinks, a dessert, etc. Nice quiet atmosphere and interesting decor. (It actually was an old feed mill at one time.)
Another favorite restaurant of mine is Heiney's in Black Earth. Great ribs!

Check out Winnequah Gun Club's website for their summer/fall shooting events, many of which are open to guests/ visitors.

One of the big things you find in WI that are almost gone in other places are the road houses.  Old tavern/restaurants on the old thouroughfares that have been there for decades.  Found mostly along the old US highway system.  Kinda like the old Route 66.

If you are going to go up into Door County, you can bypass the crowds and head straight to Washington Island.  A short ferry ride and you are away from all of the crowds.  You can camp with tents, rent a cabin or stay in a room.  It is beautiful with plenty to see and places to relax.

Old World Wisconsin (Eagle, WI) is pretty interesting (right by McMiller's gun range as well). There is Camping/RV'ing right down the road as well and near hiking trails. (Get reservations in early for campsites).

If into bikes at all, The Harley Museum.

Into churches, there is Holy Hill.

There is the Domes in Milwaukee (They are bio-domes).

Milwaukee County Zoo.

Eat at a Culver's if there isn't one down there, nothing to fancy, but it is pretty good.

Here is something the Travel Channel did on Burgers in WI. http://www.travelchannel.com/destinations/wisconsin/burger-land-wisconsins-burger-belt-travel-guide

Have fun. If you do come to Eagle, Message me.

All other places mentioned are pretty cool, so I won't reiterate.
