...and it was productive I'd say. His point was basically mag bans and background checks offered little to nothing in the way of protection against any future massacres. He wanted our thoughts. The two that piqued his interest the most were dropping gun free school zones and better enforcement of existing FFL laws at gun shows where unlicensed vendors are dealing and brokering firearms illegally.
Other topics brought up that got very little attention were repealing the NFA, repealing the Hugh's Amendment, removing suppressor from the NFA, and armed guards in schools. I must say I was VERY impressed with Congressman Ribble's position on gun laws. He was looking for suggestions that made sense and would have measurable results on crime without infringing on law abiding citizens rights. Lastly, he said he's hearing from the gun control crowd at a rate of about 10 to 1 so start sending those emails!!!! |

That's what he said. They guys that are all for gun control are outnumbering us. Whatever method they are using, it's making it appear as though they are more concerned than we are! |

Yeah, it would be nice to get some public figures to show up to those. Maybe Vicki McKenna too? She's into guns and would probably talk about it in one of her shows in the days following it. |

And then there's Sunday morning....that was fun. |

So technically, He should be working on gun control as this is what the majority of his constituents are asking him for... |

But we are not a democracy. |

If you believe in Democracy then yeh I suppose so. But we are not a democracy. Slight tangent here, but I pull it back at the end. When I went to college, all students were required to take a 3-credit civics class for their general requirements. The Poli-Sci teachers had to each take a stint at it, due to the fact it was a massive lecture and every student had to take it. It was an astoundingly easy class that I wouldn't have gone to regularly, except for the fact that I ended up with my boss from my on-campus job as the professor (the class being so big, you randomly got your teacher). To make matters worse, I worked right before the class, so we walked to class together. Hooky was not an option. The mid-terms and finals consisted of around 55 multiple choice questions. Your score was double the number you got right, and then they curved the results after throwing out the outliers. One of the questions on the midterm was : "Which of the following is NOT one of the branches of the US Federal Government" a.) Legislative Branch b.) Executive Branch c.) Democratic Branch d.) Judicial Branch A few months later we were having a work lunch and I was laughing about this question, and my boss said "You know that over 1/3 of the people in your class got that question wrong?" Most of those people were education majors. The girl who sat next to me got a 52 on that test, after the curve. Her getting her test back and showing it to me is still burned into my memory like a horror movie. She graduated with honors with her education degree (That said, I did not go to a top-tier school). I bring this up because, sadly I'm not sure the distinction is all that apparent to those people sending in the letters. |

He told me a story about one of his professors who made a comment one day about how great our Democracy is. Later she asked them to write a paper on censorship. He was explaining to me how he considered writing a paper about how she was wrong, we are not a Democracy, and that the poor grade she was going to give him for his paper amounted to censorship. We both laughed about it, in the end he didn't do it. But as I understand it he wrote a very glaring review of her class when it was all over. |
