Is anyone here a member of Shultz'? I remember a thread last fall about them having issues with someone's deer blind, but I can't seem to find it with search. The search on this site really flummoxes me.

I was wondering if they have days where I can check out the range and talk to someone about their policies. I read on their website that they had a membership drive in October, but that seems pretty far away.

The search function on this website sucks ass. I've gotten good results by searching the site through Google. Just google search your terms plus AR15.com, and you'll probably find what your looking for.

Yeah, that was me.

Here's the other thread with some pictures of the club and the offending deer stand just over our fencline.

You can see the deer stand on the map picture I made. AFAIK it's still standing there. However, since deer season is over and nobody could be legally hunting from there anyway, shooting in pistol bay 1 will commence soon.

The new restriction will be a small endorsement to the membership badge that you took a short class or review of some kind and once you have that you'll be cleared to shoot in the bay. If you can attend a USPSA or IDPA type shoot without getting DQ'd or kicked out, you'll pass easily then the endorsement is good for the life of your membership AFAIK.

They're also confirmed as having the new 300 yard range that we've been promised for years now and will point 90 degrees towards Big Muskego lake as a definite "go ahead". The City of Muskego has a deal with the club to get rid of as much Janesville Rd. improvement dirt as they can at Schultz as the new backstops and berms. The fact this is saving the City disposal fees should help grease the wheels with the WI DNR. AFAIK, the WI DNR was good to go, as they tend to like gun clubs as a way of keeping land out of reach of developers anyway, but the city needing the club as a cheap way to get rid of their road construction dirt should "grease the wheels" somewhat.

I don't know what will become of the 100 yard range and all the sideways pistol bays they have for USPSA and IDPA shoots. Presumably they'd keep using them for competition since they're already in the process of getting dirt shipped in to rebuild all the berms and hills. When the 300 yard range is done, I don't know if the pistol bays would open up more "full time" or what. Or if they'll remain in use as a 100-75-50-25-15 yard range at the same time with only Bay 1 staying open for people wanting to practice pistol action shooting. (with the proper extra endorsement of your card)

If you're thinking about joining, I'd do so NOW, there's been talk since last fall of capping club membership soon, meaning you'd have to wait for someone to die, quit, or get kicked out to join. All you have to do is show up at a monthly meeting be an NRA member (this is more of an insurance thing than anything else) and fill out an app to join. We don't have any secret club handshakes or sponsoring members etc.

The next meeting is THIS MONDAY APRIL 1st 7:00PM at the El Vallarta (formerly High Tides) Restaurant and rental hall out on Janesville Rd. The meeting is in the rental hall on the right hand set of doors as you approach the front of the building. Show up around 6:30 or so to get a jump on filling out the paperwork.

As to club rules or policies, they only have two big ones besides all the usual safety stuff you'd expect at any decent club. 1. No full auto. 2. You can't shoot alone. Another member must be around, or you have a guest with you. It's usually not to hard to have that extra member. Some of the older retired members volunteer to stay on the club grounds during set hours to provide that second person as much as possible, and with all the new members, someone's often there shooting so you can too when you get there. Four years ago when I joined, I'd sometimes have to wait an hour or so before someone would show up. This year, even on Dec. 21st, two people was there shooting so I could shoot right away too.

It's all pretty much predicated on preventing jackassery and rounds going over the berms into the neighborhood which would get us shut down. Or maybe someone alone shooting themselves and bleeding out etc.

IMO, the biggest downside to the club, once the 300 yard range is done, is the mosquitoes from Big Muskego lake. You have to hose yourself down with DEET from about May 1 to Sept 30.

Edit:

Also at the last meeting we were updated Len Pilak club president met with City of Muskego officials, and they reviewed our key-card access logs, and webcam security footage of the range, and it was clear the stray bullet incident we were discussing in the thread above in no way could have come from the club. Apparently some of the City Council and Mayor were quite impressed, and has created the current buddy-buddy relationship with the city, and the mutual back scratching with the fill-dirt situation to build the 300 yard range over the coming months.

Do you think anyone would be skeeved out if I stopped by some day to walk around, if someone was there? I'd like to see the range before I pony up. I'm not sure if ya'll have a gate or anything.

In all honesty, they probably would. We do have a locked gate, and we've had problems in the past with uninvited people and ex-members/banned members screwing around and shooting on the range. Someone might be a bit at someone saying they wanted to see the range because they were deciding whether or not to join the club.

My very first meeting as a new member, club president showed us security video of someone trying an old key-code at the gate, not knowing they'd upgraded to RFID cards, getting pissed and REPEATEDLY STABBING the security panel for the gate.

The gate is open for any club event like the bowling pin shoots, USPSA/IDPA, the GSSF shoot, and our open trap nights. And those times everybody's welcome. However if you want to make up your mind in time to join on Monday, that obviously doesn't help you.

Do you have time tomorrow? With the decent weather, people will probably be there, but I can meet you to let you in and maybe you can make up your mind before the Monday monthly meeting for April.

Shoot me a PM.
