But hey, the pics are pretty impressive .  Not exactly a 'range', but 80 acres north of town on a buddy's property.  I was driving around the edge of a field which bordered a creek.  What I didn't plan for is that the creek had flowed over, then froze, then had a nice thin coat of snow over it that made it look perfectly flat.  You can see his dually GMC (also stuck, but barely) way in the background on his way to try to pull me out.

Moral of the story?  Life is hard.  It's even harder when you're stupid.

That sucks hard. I hate it when nature is sneaky like that. When I was 17, I put my truck into a ditch at about 11pm when I was snow blowing a business park during a storm and what I thought would be the driveway next to the fire hydrant (cuz every fire hydrant is on a corner ) and ended up driving straight into the ditch. Turns out it was ditch, fire hydrant on a little land bridge, about 12ft of ditch and THEN the driveway. All that fresh snow makes it hard to see any sort of difference in terrain.

What was the damage to your vehicle? I see the bumper came off, but was that all?

Nope, bumper's fully intact and on.  The only thing visible is a dent in the front lower bumper about the size of a shoe which can easily be popped back out.

I can laugh a little bit about it now but man was I beside myself at the time.  At least I got a good story and a couple of pics out of it but my pride is still a little damaged.  As I'm sitting there after I went in I couldn't help but to think of this scene from Vacation:

That is cool.  I have never seen one of those before.  Good to know they exist, just in case I ever need one.

It could have been worse, when I was in High School a friend put his parents Pinto Wagon in the lake, in 25 feet of water with the rear lift gate still open.  It sank very quickly.  The good news is on its way to the water, it just missed running over his Dad, one of my favorite fishing buds at the time.

Ah, now that I look closer, that's a chunk of ice out front, not the bumper.

Here's a better picture of it.  Yup, very cool.  it originally belonged to the railroad.  He uses it now fairly infrequently and said his biggest "customers" seem to be train vs. car accidents where the car gets dragged down the tracks a couple hundred yards.  I was out in less then ten minutes though he did have to drop one of those stabilizers down off the back to keep from sliding.

And yes, we did shoot.  10mm and then then maiden voyage of a S&W 15/22 with a Slide Fire stock.  I honestly didn't have very high hopes for that setup after reading some of the woes guys have had due to lack of 22lr recoil.  I did a modest amount of work to lighten the trigger pull, all to the factory components.  All I can say is Wow.  That thing hums like a sewing machine with no effort at all

Tragically, all was lost in the above off-roading accident

Yeah. I like the skis mounted to the side that so it doesn't sink past the midpoint of the drive wheels.
Everything about it looks simple, no frills, and purpose built. Nothing is that way any more.

By the hour, not by the job so it was a the 1-hour minimum.

I would guess those are more for track protection than skis.  Doesn't look like they have enough surface for skis.
