Why do we really do this still?

We still do it because it reduces our national power usage. That isn't to say it always SAVES power, due to how the grid works, but on paper it's a conservation effort. Honestly, it's a lot better than most of the other retarded conservation things we've done. Generally any of the "good" presidents have said the same thing, looked at it, and were convinced it wasn't as terrible as it seems. Regan being the latest. Truthfully, a better use would be to come up with some way to stagger work times for people, but that's unlikely to happen. I do think as time goes on and lighting becomes more efficient, the actual energy usage for the office on lighting is going to grow negligible compared to the rest of the electronics.
I think if someone were to make a case as to the removal of DST, the strongest point would be all the massive heart-ache it causes computer systems throughout the country due to crappy programmers. I'm pretty sure any cost savings on energy conserved is long lost in the cash wasted on DST bugs. |
I tried to explain it but gave up 3yrs ago.
