With all the talk about the Shiocton range trouble. I was thinking, What about doing something like a "Adopt a Highway" .
but for a range. Something where we could organize range clean up days 6 or 8 times a year. An e-mail list so someone could send out a news letter with up date's about the range, days it will be closed, etc. etc. maybe even have some one go to the town board meetings. I know its a public range in a city park. I don't know just kinda thinking out loud. What to you think ?? CG |

Got a man on it!! Me an a couple friends spent a few hours this morning picking up spent casings and misc. debris left on the range. We plan on doing this once or twice a month. Depending on how often it appears to need it. Good move. Now make sure the city knows about it, and that people care! I'd join you, but it's at least a 2 hour drive each way. |

Not a bad idea. Part of it is education including more signage at the range. There is not near enough signage reminding the tards how to act, what is expected and penalties for not acting accordingly. I concur. Range rules should be big, bright and everywhere! While driving down to the pistol range or the rifle range there should be reminder signs like, "Np shooting glass objects", "Paper targets preferred", "Please keep the range clean", ", etc. I would be there for clean up days 2-3 times per year. I like the range and what it offers and would gladly give a half day 3 times per year. |

So to build on this idea –– adopt the range by the AR15.com WI HTF, contribute signage, do the clean up program and most importantly get the word out (involve the village, make a proposition, etc.) Sounds like an excellent plan to cut off the trouble before it is closed. I'd bet you could roll that into an NRA magazine story or who knows what –– "protect our (range) resources" –– before they are gone. A free CCTV camera donated to the PD might go a really long way. Hmm... |

Quoted: Another idea would be to set up a camera that overlooks the range. Get a fake one, but make it look real enough that it would make people rethink how they are going to act while there. That would probably result in a shot-up fake camera, and complaints from a new set of neighbors in that direction about bullets hitting their houses and cars. |

Put it on a pole, overseeing the range, with an antenna pointed in the direction of the local popo.
Hell... someone donate a camera, and I'll donate a realistic looking fake antenna. |

Monoprice has a few inexpensive options for fake cameras. |
| The average mouth-breather type would not be able to tell if it was real or not if done right. And if it helps prevent some of this activity...........well that has win all over it. Another option would be to install a deer cam that is hidden from view, and periodically checked. I think it would help if the local police made a few checks at the range to help get the word out that it is being watched. |
