What is the penalty for carrying into a business/building with the 5x7 sign posted?

Fine up to 1000 I believe.

I believe they also need to press charges correct?  For example, the Aldi's incident in Milwaukee, they did not press the tresspassing charge.

ETA: See response below

The penalty is a "Civil Forfeiture" aka ticket up to $1000.00.  It is not Trespassing.

Apparently it depends on whether it results a good shoot.

Haven't heard of an incident yet in which someone got pinched for this, anyone else?

The actual penalty is nothing...you have to get caught first!

From what I've been told from LEO's is they can only charge you with trespassing by state statute unless there is a specific municipal or county ordinance

who said the sign had to be 5x7? Unless they changed something, I don't recall that being a rule.

Actually, it IS trespassing.  It's a forfeiture, not criminal, but still Trespassing.  The violation is in a subsection of "Trespass to land", Wis. Stat. 943.13.

GreenZ, 943.13 specifies the sign must be at least 5x7.  Both of these statements can be verified in the DOJ FAQ, p. 38-39, here, or at the direct link to the statute link above.

It also must displayed at every entrance in such a manner that it can reasonably expected to be noticed by all entering.

I've already violated the posting rule... twice... while on service calls. (well, probably not enforcible, because of the sign locations).

One was on a Coca Cola warehouse. I had to change the combo on the warehouse drop safe used by the drivers. They had a no weapons sign mounted on a 20' high wall about 6' above the entrance door, or 15' off the ground. They had a "No Smoking" sign right on the door itself.  I never looked up there. I was driving away, when I noticed the sign on the wall in my rear view mirror. Went back to read it. It was about 12" square. Oops.  I'm not 15' tall.

Second was on a nursing home. Med cabinet lock wouldn't open, I was there to fix it. The glass doors at the entrance again had a "No Smoking" sign right on the door itself. When I got there, there were some boxes (toilet paper, paper towels, etc.) stacked  in front of one of the glass panels that flanked the entrance doors, from a delivery they were getting. Their sign was 5" X 7", and placed at the very bottom of the glass panel that had the boxes in front of it. I saw the sign  from the inside on my way out. Oops again.

I've carried every day since Dec 10th when I got my license. I've only disarmed once at a posted customer (Wausau Paper offices in Rhinelander), and at the post office in Eagle River. I service 5 differant bank chains (about 20 locations total) and not one is posted.

"posted a sign that is located in a prominent place near all of the entrances to the part of the building to which the restriction applies and any individual entering the building can be reasonably expected to see the sign"

I see lots of folks that get the 5x7right, but then stick the sign in a place that no one can see.

East Towne mall in madison has a horrible sign locations. they are pretty much at a 180 degree facing the entrance or on a wall 20 feet away from the entrance. I personally ignore all signs. the reason behind concealed is that no one knows you are carrying. Reward > Risk in this situation for me.

Fox River Mall is posted on food court entrances but you can go in thru Scheels and there are no signs so carry all you want in the mall just enter through Scheels.

You'd figure someone that teaches CCW classes would know all the ins and outs of CCW law, but I guess we'd figure wrong.
