I'm down on this one.  She was a great leader and fought hard for CCW in WI.  It was her bill (co-author SB93) that brought CCW to fruition.  A heck of a year for her, I hope her family/personal issues work out for the best.  I don't think she's stepping down because she was under recall.   I figured she would have owned that election.

Senate is now split in WI until May/June time.  At least the Senate is out of session.  Sucks still. :/

Sad to see her go. She was on "our" side.

AFAIK, this was her first venture into politics, and it was one heck of year for everyone, nut just her. She was probably thinking "WTF did I get into???" Almost half her colleagues fled the state, "hazardous working conditions" with all the yahoos descending on Madison, recalls, etc.

I don't think the Senate has any more "business" on it's schedule until next year... which is after the next election. She would not have been up for election at that time (if she won the recall). Others are, and the current 50/50 split (or the majority) doesn't mean squat until a "new" Senate is elected in Nov. and takes office in Jan. 2013 (unless a "special session" is called by the Governor).

I've heard on the news that the recall election for her seat will still go on as planned. Don't know how this works in this situation, whether that winner gets a full 4 yr term, or just 3 yrs to finish hers.   I'm thinking 3, as 4 would throw a glitch into the normal even-year election cycle.

It's too early to know who the Repub candidate will be to run against Donna Seidel in the recall, but there's not much time for campaigning. Seidel's currently the Assembly Rep from that area, so she has "name recognition". I hope the Repubs have someone to match that.
