Where are you guys finding your CCW accoutrement?  I went to Cabelas, and Gander today with no good finds.  I won't buy uncle mikes holsters, and there weren't many other decent choices.  I almost bought a king tuk and I regret not doing it now.  I have yet to visit any Milwaukee metro area shops, tomorrow I will stop and see what is about.  Anyone have a hints about a good place to go?  I am looking to iwb/owb a G17 for a few weeks until I can save the cash for something smaller.  Anyone know a Safariland stocking dealer?

We need to rekindle the get together day for sharing carry guns/holsters/equipment so people can try before they buy on things that are Internet only such as Crossbreed items for example.

It pisses me off to purchase this stuff on the Internet because as usual, it is the wrong size or what not and they I don't/forget/can't send it back and it goes in yet another bin full of random gun shit I thought I needed, didn't or upgraded in the basement.

We need a different type of gun shop 'round these parts.

Before someone corrects me, I just visited the Crossbreed sight after my post above and found this in big letters on page 1:

LIFETIME WARRANTY: Once you receive your holster you have two weeks to try it out, if it doesn't work for you, simply give us a ring and we will buy it back. Even after your two-week-try-it-free period is over, the holster still carries a lifetime warranty and we will repair or replace it as long as you own it if it fails you in any way under normal use.

Of course for me, that means "intend" to send it back, forget, stick it off to the side, find it later and be pissed at myself.

I was just looking at them, do they stock a showroom or is it mail order only?

Anyone have the CB mini-tuck for the LCP for those light days?

They have a showroom and a bunch of stuff in the basement.  They have good deals one day a year, the rest of the time is so so.  But you certainly could try certain things –– UM and Safariland are what I recall, as well as a bunch of 5.11.

Just don't try to get buzzed in the front door if you look like a... how shall we put this... troublemaker?

I am having this too many posts for one night problem tonight!

Anyone purchased a specialty "normal looking" non-tactical, daily wear, ok for business, concealed carry winter jacket?  Numerous makers.

Having just dug out the "regular" wear, I see the zipper is getting hosed.

Just thought I should investigate before purchasing a new one.

I'd kind of like that. It would be more like going to a car dealership and being able to test drive a vehicle first rather than buying whatever they have sight unseen.

Are there benefits to one or the other if compairing a Comp-tac C-tac to a Crossbreed super tuck? One has a leather backing and the C-tac is just Kydex? Being a lefty and fat, I am hoping to carry in the 7 o`clock position

I have heard that horse hide if better than cow hide for holster backing. Wears better and stinks less.

Do you guys carry an extra mag as well?

I just ordered a Cross Breed Super Tuck from crossbreedseconds.com.  Hopefully, this means it'll be here before my license, since it's an in-stock order.

They sell belts, too, but I have a pretty good belt.  We'll see how it holds up with a holster on it, then I'll think of a purpose-built gun belt.

I planned ahead and ordered a crossbreed for my G19 a couple months ago.  My brother (a MPD cop) tried it on and promptly ordered one for him.  It was much more comfortable than the other IWB holsters he had.

In stock? Poo mine would be 4-6 weeks.

We need an arfcommer dealer (hint hint) to become the Crossbreed dealer and get some demo equipment.

I had asked them to send some samples in regard to the WI shoot but they had already spent their budget on that, instead giving me very specific instructions to get in on time and get it done for next year.  Very nice people to deal with.

It seems all the stores are missing the boat on this one.  Like jrpett said, having a place to go to try before you buy –– not pushy, lots of options, extremely friendly to both people who don't know and us Internet experts... I'd think you would clean up.

I'm seeing a pattern develop for even the regulars around here who read a lot, know a lot, even somewhat "experts" –– but it still comes down to a desire to try and handle a bit.

It's just the web address that Crossbreed uses to sell off their returned or slightly imperfect equipment.

They rate them in four groups. Given their return policy of "Once you receive your holster you have two weeks to try it out, if it doesn't work for you, simply give us a ring and we will buy it back" I'm guessing:

Excellent –– No manufacturing issues, returned appearing unused/unopened.

Very Good –– Returned with minor scuff marks or slight imperfections from manufacturing in the hide, gun contact areas 100 percent.

Good –– Hide has the appearance of being passed around a Wisconsin HTF event or group dinner. Residual fingerprints from smoked meat products and beer. Overall good condition with the smell of smoke and beef. Minor scratches on the kydex from a possible man-on-man fondue fork accident. Some units have sand and mangina odors which are easily washed off by the end-user.

Fair –– Returned from a self-proclaimed fat lefty* from Wisconsin who ordered one and sweat pants carried it for two weeks in the always-wet-wants-to-migrate-to-the-middle-of-the-ass-crack 7-o'clock position, 24 hours a day imparting a lovely combo of sweat/ass/horse smell upon the hide, dark and curly hairs stuck under the attachment points, scratched clips from rubbing against his reloading bench, grazed part of the kydex in a freak reloading accident involving a bucket and a light fixture, cat dander coated, recolored portions of the holster with overspray of gun painting products and in some cases, the appearance of random blood splatter on the holster from three unrelated injury-accident events. BEST VALUE!
* A lefty? I would have guessed you to be right-leaning.

Well I am taking my chances on the seconds. I found one that is almost exactly what I want. Lefty for a Beretta in horse hide. Listed as very good. Didn't really want the combat cut , but I guess I don't really know how it will feel with the little extra cut off the leather. At $45 I think I can take my chances. They allow 10 days for CASH payment so I hope to have the money for the wifes permit and my holster before then. We shall see how it fits. and carries.

Yes I am going to carry a Beretta. After all I want to carry the best.

I missed that cause I didn't read it all. Funny I sort of resemble that remark.

Sweat pants? I'm not that fat.  Ok maybe 8 O`clock. Yes I hope to keep it pube free.

On a side note since I was told to lighten up and the only way I can do that right now is to make fun of myself. I recently had my wife take a picture of my bare ass so I could post the picture at the holloween party we went to and damn if my ass isn't really fucking hairy. I was even disturbed by it.

Sorry, I shot over from Hazwood's link in the other thread.  You know what I think of my CTAC.

Didn't you offer to buy me a C-tac? I seem to remember you saying something about it way back.

Good –– Hide has the appearance of being passed around a Wisconsin HTF event or group dinner. Residual fingerprints from smoked meat products and beer. Overall good condition with the smell of smoke and beef. Minor scratches on the kydex from a possible fondue fork accident.

BEST VALUE!

Yes I am going to carry a Beretta. After all I want to carry the best.

I'm not sure which partial post is funnier.

Hey, I'm a lefty too. And I completely resemble that remark.

But I did laugh my ass off...

You know FMD is just jealous cause he doesn't own a finely crafted Beretta of any kind.

All the cool kids are lefty.

Maybe he does?

Oh wait, you said "finely crafted".

Disregard.

For what it's worth: Those of you who are going to carry Glocks or 1911s - go with the "slide" version of the CTAC.  For the former, it will allow you to carry anything from a 26 to a 34.  For the latter, it should work with full size, commander, and officer's guns (can't guarantee that, double check on Comp-Tac's website).

I'd rather drive the Chevy.

T, if I did offer to buy you a CTAC, I'll make good on it, but I honestly don't remember doing so.

If any of you lefty's are interested in a Ctac for .45 caliber glocks send me an IM.  They pissed me off so I'm switching to something else.

Yes, I'm a member of the super secret lefty club too.

It was a while ago.
SO I am letting you of the hook.

Will you be CCWing a Glock, or your beloved 92?  If the former, LMK your preferred belt width.

The rest of them may own sweat pants –– but if you're going to be an elite club, don't you want them to all match your favorite pairs –– the comfy ones for sandy days and the asian knock off "tactical" ones you got from 5.11 4.10?

Good luck with that.

Cabela's seemed to have an okay assortment of holsters, not just Uncle Mike's and Fobus, but I'll probably be ordering online. I did order a holster from Hideous Holsters that carries my XD9 with a light attached and it works awesome, so I might just order a concealment holster from her as well. I'd recommend checking their site out, I heard about it in the Tactical Gear section and it turned out to be a good experience.

I always carry a spare mag. I'll be going with a horizontal mag carrier since, well frankly it will work better with my lard body when I'm sitting down. Did a rifle class with a vertical single spare mag carrier and it left a slight bruise on my leg from being pressed into it so much when in sitting, squatting and kneeling.
