Was just listening to WISN news and they said that a DOJ spoksperson said the first permits could be issued as early as this afternoon. Hmmmm. What do you guys think?

Honestly, i don't think it should take that long to approve or deny an application...a background check and go through the application to make sure they answered everything correctly and it's fully filled out.  enter it in the database...done, print and send the license.

That said, I'll need to see it to believe it...

Issued, sure.  They will spend the entire day today filling out one license and getting it approved.  It will then be mailed out tomorrow, and arrive in 3-5 days.

The story said one of the 20 or whatever people was the WI Carry dude from Brookfield. They must have heard it was OK to drop off, which apparently it is, but they didn't say exactly where.

I LITERALLY dropped it in the downtown post office mailbox 30 seconds before I heard that story. I was on St. Paul, hadn't even turned.

FU!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would have driven directly to Madtown.

Oh well.

Instead I drove to Koppa's Fulbeli deli and got a great sandwich. Though I hate navigating that side of town Milwaukee.

The Urinal verifies you can in fact pick up and drop off at their office.

Dropped mine off at the Milwaukee Airport PO, so mine won't be among them.  They did say it should be delivered to DOJ tomorrow, but I'm still not holding my breath about getting mine this month.

Also, people can pick up and drop off applications at the Department of Justice's office at the Capitol. Staff members are reporting the numbers of people doing that Tuesday morning are coming in "spurts," according to Brueck.

I didn't think I looked quite that happy.

That sucks! We had a couple of threads over on OCDO about the get together. A couple of WCI members contacted the DOJ about handing them in person and one lady said she'd take them. Was kind of a cluster right up till the end because everyone else in the office said they had to be mailed.  I think the armed badger site also confirmed they could drop them off too.

Not sure if they intend to take them everyday like the journal says but this morning a bunch of us had breakfast and went down to the capitol and put them in a box in what I believe was JB's office. We came as a group around 8:00am and while I was there one or two people trickled in after our group handed them in. Pretty cool, the capitol police seen our empty holsters and pointed us in the right direction without us even asking.

Don't feel too bad, I doubt they will be done any sooner.  We mainly wanted to do it for the historical factor plus we are generally a social bunch and are always looking to hang out.

I used the same box to drop ours this morning. First pickup said 10AM. Driving to Madison would not have been an option for me.
I'm figuring the apps will be available for pickup at the Madison PO box some time tomorrow. So, they may or may not make it into tomorrow's heap.

Processing shouldn't take long. There isn't anything to deliberate over.

Hoping to beat the dumptruck full off applications that will arrive with regular afternoon delivery, besides I want the lowest number permit on arfcom

That is not good.  If they could only get through 120 applications in a day and they will possibly be receiving many thousands thousands in the next few days/week, it will be a long wait.  At this rate it will take them 41 days to get through 5,000 apps.  What if it is 10 or 20 thousand applications?

120 permits will be the lowest if that's what they did on the first day. One guy could easily do 50 permits a day.

The apps are trivial to evaluate.

  • Questions checked in the correct pattern?

  • Three signatures?

  • Driver's License data base looks like top of page 2?

  • WCCA database = no prohibitions?

  • NICS call = give him the gun?

  • Training document is compliant?

  • $50 enclosed?

10 minutes or less. They'll be humming through these things.
Look at how we obsessed over the postage, and whether a money order was okay, and notarized copies of DD214's. The applications are going to SAIL through.

Not necessarily. They mailed 120 permits today (who thought they'd mail any the first day?). They received 150 applications (my local TV news said 142). They never said they only processed 120 of the 150. Sounds to me like 30 applications were incorrectly filled out, got a "delay" from NICS, need a little more scrutiny, or were downright denied. As with anything else, it always takes longer when you start something than it does after you get some experience. The first time I reloaded, I was lucky to get 20 rounds per hour. Now it's more like 300.

The fact they told the news they would be sending permits out by the end of the day for people who delivered this morning is amazing.  No multi-day –– if everything checks out, bam, out the door.

For all of the BS twists the DOJ tossed in at the last minute, they seem to have their stuff together for this side.  We'll see how it holds up with the volume.

Not like Utah where they are actually sending the fingerprint cards to the FBI for weeks of processing.

Things could always be better but I am quite pleased overall considering where we came from.

Pass Castle Doctrine as some icing on the cake.  Though I do agree from purely a strategy standpoint that they better put some more focus on "jobs" in the "jobs session"

I mean that purely from a how to stay in power, hearts and minds point of view.

I read they have 18 people doing it through march and they only got 120 done today.  I really hope the pace picks up, they are going to have a box truck of applications tomorrow and 120 a day isn't a stellar pace.  If I had known I could have driven to madison I would have taken the day off and dropped off in person.

As of approximately 3:45 p.m., more than 120 licenses have been issued to qualified applicants.  Almost 150 applications have been received by the DOJ at the Attorney General’s Capitol office, where applications have been made available and have been dropped off by visitors.

They received less than 150, and sent out more than 120 permits, with no mention of how many applications had to be returned because they were missing a signature / training proof / forgotten check / wrong box checked, etc. and no mention of how many failed / delayed background checks they encountered.

From the JS:
As of 3:45 p.m., 145 applications had been received by the Department of Justice and of those, 123 had been approved and 85 had been printed. Applications could not be submitted until Tuesday and by 9 a.m., 83,000 forms had been downloaded.

Lol I thought the same thing as I was walking from the street to my front door early this morning after working the night shift.  Had the filled out app in my hand and thought to myself "wouldn't that be ironic if I got mugged walking up my driveway with my ccw app in hand..."
