This last weekend I had the opportunity to do a 2 day tactical speed shooting pistol course with John Krupa from STTG. I had a great time and the course really helped me work on honing in old skills and learning new skills. The class was held in MI up in the UP by Iron Mountain and sponsored/hosted by a great group of guys at the Sagola Township Sportsmen’s Club.

A little info on John Krupa, John is a police officer with a small municipal agency in Illinois and has over 20 years of experience in law enforcement. He has previously served as a beat officer, rapid response officer, field training officer and firearms instructor with the Chicago Police Department. John is a certified firearms instructor with the Chicago Police Department and certified Master Firearms Instructor with the University of Illinois - Police Training Institute. He has over 4000 hours of certified training as a firearms instructor, operator and armorer. John is also a graduate firearms instructor from the Secret Service Academy, FBI, DEA and Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), and has the distinguished recognition of being the only law enforcement trainer in the country to attend all four of these prestigious recognized instructor training programs.

The course was around 1000 rounds +/- and required a lot of attention to detail. STTG usually only opens it’s training to LEO and Military. It does open it’s training to other instructors and people who have a decent resume of shooting classes and instruction. We had 12 people in this class. If I remember correctly they turned away around 15-20 people from taking the course due to STTG’s requirements to take the course.

I was using a new S&W MP 45c for the course. I had never shot the gun before going to the class. I came in the top 5 for qualification. I think I actually tied for 5th. The firearm functioned flawless and I was pretty impressed.

I really enjoyed the training. I took my MP up there to test it out for CCW purposes. I had zero malfunctions. I also got to test and time myself in drawing, firing, and speed reloading for CCW purposes.

If you can get into one of their classes I would suggest it. I definitely learned from it and took some great training and practice skills to heart. They are a top notch group in my opinion.
