A+
Food was great, appreciated, and filling. I hope you got enough green in the tip jar to cover your costs, and then some as you did a great job with it! Prizes were awesome considering the cost of entry to get into the entire event, Great job in organizing them, picking the winners, and splitting it up. Line safety workers did a great job. No let me correct myself and say they did a FANTASTIC job. It made me feel better having someone in charge of calling the range safe, and keeping an eye on things. Great muzzle discipline, and weapons handling was demonstrated by all! Weather was great, people were GREAT(Thanks a million to 007 who allowed me to zero in my 308 AR on his steel popper, and shoot at it for the afternoon!) Also a million thanks to the guy with the class 3 MP5 for letting my 13 year old son rip a few mags through it! If anyone took some pics, please post em, and lets see what you got. Overall, a Saturday WELL spent, and am looking forward to next year! BTW_I won a free transfer card in my bag of P mags from Reaper tactical that I did not see until after I got home. I am not very close to his area, and not looking to buy anything in the near future so the first person that says they want it, gets it. I will drop it in the mail for them. SO lets see some pics! EDIT to include a big ++++++++1 for the music!!!!! I never imagined having great music being jammed would have added so much fun to the range.Awesome! |

You are quite welcome. Thanks for letting me pull the trigger on your DPMS. I gotta say, it's quite a shooter with just DAG surplus. Some good handloads, and I think you could give Pete's OBR a run for his money. (I still want an OBR though Collin, fantastic job on the food. My uncle keeps raving about your beans. Rick, great job getting the sponsors lined up again. Too bad you didn't spend anytime behind a trigger (at least that I could tell). My uncle and I had a great time. For those of you who missed it, you missed out. I'm already looking forward to next year. |

I had a blast, would have been awesome even without food or prizes... those are just the icing on the cake!!! Thanks to Rick for putting this together, and to Colin for the FANTASTIC food! Thank you to everyone who let me try their stuff. Also the Shawano Gun Glub for letting use hold our event on their range. I say next year we take a few donations so they can use it to upgrade or maintain the grounds. Last but not least to the sponsors... what a great bunch of prizes!
Stupid Black PMags... now I have to build a rifle around you! |

Quoted: Apparently, someone forgot a Savage bolt gun on the range???? Well, that's a good job, tell them the details so they can guess to claim it. Shhhhhh...I was really drooling over the scope. Damn you. Actually, I've put out feelers to a likely suspect but am semi-guessing. I'm thinking by morning someone will realize. Had it been slightly darker out, I would have missed seeing it in the grass. It is in safe hands with Parruthead and he can hold it hostage until the ransom is paid or the 24 hour 5 minute waiting period for claiming lost goods has passed. ![]() Long day –– just got home and unpacked –– will write more tomorrow. |

Based on the pictures it looks like a bunch of guys got together and ate food. Somewhere along the way, they ran out of food, so the one guy who brought a gun (2 guns actually) shot a hog and they ate it too. Then the adults hogged the kids cool toy and all he could do was watch. Great weather too.

I wish my son and I could have stayed long enough for the pig and the prize drawings.
We had to leave just as the pig was about to be served so he could get to work on time. Even though we were only there for 3ish hours we had a good time. Next time we will make sure he has the day off or else he will have to drive himself! |

Ron (SteelGator) and I returned home safe and sound. A Great Big Thanks to Hazwood and his crew for putting on a wonderful weekend. A Special Thanks to Parruthead and his lovely wife for allowing us to camp in his backyard and for all the great food he worked so hard to prepare.
I was the lucky winner of the 5.45 upper supplied by Huldra and I'd like to thank them for being so generous in supplying a great door prise. Met a lot of great people shot a lot of great guns and had a wonderful time. I have about 75 photos that I'll post a select few of once I get them uploaded to photobucket. |
|
I also wanted to post this in here:
My girlfriend and I had a great time at the shoot. The direction signs were perfect, the food was great, the door prizes were awesome, and the organization of the event made everything go smooth. Thank you everyone who provided their time, resources, hospitality, and donations to make this a wonderful event. I'd also like to thank jrpett for letting me shoot his Uzi and M203. |

Thank you so much!! We did forget to take a dinner pic with food and guns though. By the way –– I don't remember giving away that bed and comforter but OK. ![]() |

We need the recipe for "Keri's Drunken Apple Baked Beans". This recipe began life as APPLE PIE BAKED BEANS from somewhere on the web, but I think I've made enough changes to it now to claim it as my own. This is my standard for baked beans anymore. Ingredients:- * 3 or 4 slices bacon, diced * 2 (16 oz) cans pork and beans, mostly drained (modified to 2 28-oz cans Bush's Baked Beans - see note below) * 1/2 c. Blues Hog BBQ Sauce (or other sweet-spicy favorite) * 1 lb. smoked leftover smoked pork or beef, more or less, or 1 lb crumbled cooked pork sausage * 1 can apple pie filling or peach pie filling * 1 medium onion, chopped * 1/2 green pepper, chopped * 1/2 c. brown sugar * 2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce * 2 Tbsp. Mustard (prepared) * 1 tsp chipotle or cayenne powder (optional, to taste*) * 1 tsp Blues Hog barbecue rub (or your favorite rub) Method:- Brown the bacon, and sauté the onion and green pepper in bacon grease. Mix in remaining ingredients. Bake at 325º for 1 hour, or simmer on stove top in large pot for 30 minutes if you don't have time to do them in the oven. Serves 12. *This is a rather spicy recipe due to the chipotle/cayenne powder. Feel free to leave it out if you'll be feeding those who prefer a less spicy taste. |

Thank you everyone who made it to the shoot. I had a great time and it's always nice to look at everyone else's firearms. A special thanks to parruthead for the food and for the camping ground. I will continue to return as often as we have these yearly shoots as both the August and September events were excellent.
I now have at least two more rifles added to my "must have" list... which isn't such a bad thing. Thank you all once again. |

I do have one request. We have a fellow named, um, "Lurker" who attended. For those of you who weren't in the loop, he said he has been hanging around with us for a while from a distance and decided to attend the event. InterceptorKnight spent a great deal of time working with him right up on the line –– an awesome sight. Thanks Ed for that and the great range safety assistance. I hope you made it back in time. I thought it was pretty cool how it all worked out and he got the assistance he needed. Made my day anyway. So to make a long story short, we enjoyed your company and hopefully you survived dealing with us. Sign up and get in here!! |

Glad my stuff was worthy of a picture! (AR with the FDE Magpul stuff and GSG-5) Dale, can I use a few of these on Facebook? My friends keep asking where the pictures are and I only snapped a few. I was having so much fun I totally didn't even think about it. |

Thanks! Dunhams still has a bunch of the SD models, if you keep an eye out they go on sale for $329-$349 every couple weeks, the originals not the GSG552. When you get one let me know I have most of the screws for replacing the internal ones that are prone to shearing or stripping threads. I bought them all through work for the price of what one of the "kits" costs. That goes for Hawzwood as well IM me that address!

Looks like an awesome time! I'll prioritize it next time around. This time was guys weekend at the cabin, so you can't bail on that! Bring the guys along with and tell wives that guys weekend must be extended one day (backwards, beginning Thurs. night) to accommodate range trip. |

Thanks to Henry, my son was given a crack at some select-fire coolness. My MP5 clone SBR is now second-fiddle and will never live up to this again...........

YOUTUBE VID Henry made many-a-kids', big and small (including us adult kids), day being so generous in sharing his toys. He also gave us a great update on the status of concealed carry rules, progress, etc. –– very informative. He sounds like an excellent resource and would be a good class to take. Thanks Henry (as well as your nephew I believe it was who was very helpful as well). Good times all around. ![]() |

I want to thank everyone who was involved in planning, organizing, providing the use of the range, providing the food, and the sponsors who provided the prizes. Everybody from A to Z. I also want to thank all who attended. It was nice to finally put a 3 dimensional face to a 2 dimensional screen name. In 30 years of shooting, this was the single most enjoyable and entertaining shooting event that I have ever attended, hands down! And to think that I was fence sitting deciding whether to attend or not. What was I thinking? The most enjoyable part was seeing the smiles on peoples faces after they had some trigger time with some of my firearms. I must have done something right, as there is someone here who now has the Robinson M96 bug. I only wish that I had some quality 40mm ammo so that people would have been able to hit what they were aiming at. I'll have that taken care of next time. I hope that everyone who wanted to, had an opportunity to use some of my toys. The icing on the cake was winning the rifle kit provided by Del-Ton. That totally caught me by surprise. What a fantastic way to end the day! I also want to thank Armedpete for providing the ride. He saved me from 6 hours of boredom had I driven alone.
So, When is the next shoot????? |

First off, I'd like to thank you for sharing your toys. I heard numerous conversations around the facility (all good) related to what you brought and shared. THANK YOU. I also heard numerous good conversations about the other stuff you brought too...in the cooler that is. Deserving of being a "sponsor" on the banner if we could go back and do it over. It is really cool to see how something like this comes together with all the little pieces people chip in. Another example being the DJ/Music service that we didn't know we were going to have... great stuff and thanks to him as well. Next year, we have to make sure everything gets out of the truck though. Unless we don't wait until next year and have some mini-shoots along the way. Is there room for three Waukesha folks in ArmedPete's truck?? I bought a membership to the Shawano club and have a key now....... (what was I thinking?????) ![]() On a serious note, there is discussion of it being wise to lock in a date sooner than later because of the club. I'm not 100 percent sure we could realistically do that yet if we want other sponsors or demo tables, etc. but I'd love to hear what people think. One big question would be JULY or SEPTEMBER. I liked the weather, but there is more risk to September as well as those who go back to school are not be able to attend. Discuss... |

DJ made the shoot ROCKING!!!!! I never imagined mixing music that sounded good with weapons and shooting! I will not tell anyone else about this however, as I would not want to see us outgrow the venue I am already thinking of some steel targets that can be cut out on my waterjet for next year theme based targets! |

AND late summer/early fall (August or September)? Whatever happens, I'll be there. Kind of like the Postal Service creed "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom.... " |

Well now that most have you have seen our Shawano Gun Club and facilities, We would gladly welcome you all back to the 2012 Roasted Nuts Shoot.. You guys just have to get me a date A.S.A.P
I tell you that all the feed back from people in our club has been very positive, I only wish more club member and board members would have been there to see How well you guys shoot and things work when a group of people get together and work together!! I would love to expand on the day next year to see more of our vendors showing up and shooting with us, Maybe even running some time events (i.e Mag Dump with a Pistol or a Ar or Both) Maybe a Man vs Man on a Dueling Plate. Maybe a Combat Shotgun Trap event! Maybe a two day event with a Free for all day on Saturday and a event/games day on Sunday!!! I would even graciously again work on the food committee!!! I think we should start a poll with July and September for starters and then narrow down the month first then go back and run one more poll to figure out which week in the month we choose! If we do it now I can guarantee we can lock in the date with the club! And I know I heard scuttle butt of a Frozen nuts shoot if you guys wanted to do that in Shawano this winter I can see about that.. Our club house is heated and I make a mean batch of Chili and Home made bread. Although I think it would be more subdued than the Roast nuts shoot and i also think that I can't be greedy and expect all of you to travel to my area for both events,Maybe someone down south has a good place to shoot. |

Traditionally, FNS is held in Feb. at the Yellowstone range. Biggest disadvantage is that it may or may not be plowed. Next is that there is no shelter, which didn't stop the 3 of us one year when the wind chill was -30F. Wish I could have made it to this shoot, but was banking on making the original date and location. Next year, I'll try to keep things in mind for either going to Shawano, or Shioctin with Shawano as a backup. |
