I was skeptical at first, but now...

Loving my new case cleaning setup - decap, then throw 2# brass in Thumler Model B with 5# stainless steel pins, 1 gallon water, liberal serving of dish soap and half a .40 case of lemi-shine.

First batch of .40 S&W done this evening (2.5 hours):

Before (mostly cleaned with walnut as bought from an EE member):

After 2.5 hours of TMB rotary tumbling with stainless steel media:

5 minutes in a preheated 175deg oven for quick drying.

That picture in wide format would make a great desktop wallpaper.

I know the feeling.

The first time you peel the lid off the tumbler and see all that grey/brown water...

Then you start rinsing and BLING!!!!!

I just use an ultrasonic cleaner. Works, and is nice for smaller gun parts as well. Still requires tumbling afterwards, but is good at cleaning up some of the thicker crud. I like it for cleaning suppressor parts, watches, and my swiss army knife. It picks up a lot of pocket crud.

I don't have room for a setup like this, but it looks like a cool project, and the pics are awesome.

I have to admit, as soon as I get back in town, I have all the components sitting in waiting for me.

I am pretty excited to try the wet tumbling idea.  Unfortunately, I am starting with one tumbler and it can't make up for the 3 dry tumblers I have.  I'm thinking I may have to upgrade to another or two to get things back on track.

I used a trick I saw on some forum or another - cut a 2 liter bottle of soda in half and use the bottom half to measure out brass. Depending on how many #s of stainless steel media you use, you can use 2-3 lbs of brass without going over the 15lb limit for the drum (so you don't prematurely kill the motor).

I've cleaned up to 200 .223 casings in one go, you might be able to squeeze in another 50. I can do about 250 .40 S&W no problem.

I'm not reloading yet.  Let me get the steps straight:

1-  add dirty brass to tumbler
2 - add stainless steel media
3- add soapy water
4- tumble
5- drain water
6- separate media and brass
7- dry brass

Correct?

Everyone does it differently, but I do it a little different.
Also depends on how nasty the brass is.

Clean brass:
1- Deprime, size, trim
2- Tumble in SS
3- Seperate media and brass
4- Dry brass
5- Load

Nasty brass:
1- Universally deprime
2- Add to tumbler with media and water
3- Tumble for a couple hours to clean
4- Remove brass, seperate media, dry
5- FL size/trim
6- SS tumble for another hour or so
7- Dry
8- Load
