Yesterday, while trying to fill out the paperwork to purchase a FNP Tactical I was asked if the address on my license is current.

I responded, no it's not.

So here's the dilemma, I did go to the DMV a few years ago and change my address. I wanted to put a sticker on it I indicating the change.

Turns out the DMV doesn't issue new id's or stickers anymore. It's just changed on the database.

So, I checked online to verify and sure enough.

Quoted from DMV site.
"When you change your address, you will not receive a new driver license unless you apply for a duplicate license online or visit a DMV Service Center."

So now I wasn't able to complete the paperwork for the pistol until this gets straightened out.

How is it possible for the ATF to require correct address, but the DMV doesn't give you a new ID??

:(

They did that years ago. Not sure if this still holds true, but you used to be able to bring in a utility bill or something to show new /current address.

I went through this a few months back and it really blows. Another fine example of Law Abiding Citizens being caught up in government bullshit. One way around this is to go to the DMV and tell them that you lost your DL (now your telling a lie) and pay them the Dollars They Want. Another way is to lie in the first place, indicating your address is correct on the form. So much for the truth.

Stay safe,
JP

Of course, you should be aware that I don't know what I'm talking about, that I am also a liar and have mental problems negating responsibility.

Online you can request a new license after an address change. You can do it online or stop at the DMV. Online they charge .50 delivery. I assume free if you pick it up.

I'll probably stop in to avoid anymore hassle, but I've purchased 3 pistols and two rifles and never thought anything of it.

That's why I grabbed a few extra stickers last time I moved. A $0.50 delivery fee for a new license isn't bad, and it beats waiting at the DMV.

I was refused a gun sale on a .22 Marlin at Wal-Mart because I had the blue DMV sticker showing my new address on my license and they wouldn't take it. Moved from Eau Claire to Chippewa Falls.

Somehow the DMV in Superior put my brothers address on my license.  I've never lived there.
