I really want to know more about this group and their supporters. I think I met Jeri's daughter (may have been another board member's daughter, dunno - but I see some resemblance between the two - one of her friends practically freaked and begged me not to mention what I do for a living because she'd go into full meltdown) one evening in a Milwaukee bar. (The daughter was somewhat intoxicated and full of drama, but that's not abnormal for females in their early 20s.) I know little except that they've got a lot of typical WI left coast support (Alterra coffee, ArtAsia, a trendy art place in Milwaukee's third ward, and individual Milwaukee east side / Milwaukee County north shore types). Probably some Dane County support in there, too. I do recall seeing that they had a booth at some municipal West Allis summer festival held on Greenfield Avenue back in 2009, Not sure if they were there again in 2010. Mike |

Why does beekeeper think that Madison cops were pulling people over and arresting them for having a handgun in the car? Because KSD, RSD, and WISP... they do kind of target FIB's a bit more on I-94, at least my non-scientific poll of who I see pulled over on my way down to IL. I think the guns are incidental.

Mike AFAIK, she's a one-woman show who makes a tidy living off of WAVE, getting grant money from the larger liberal money bins, Joyce foundation, whatever VPC/Brady have to give, Soros's front groups, etc. whatever fed grants she can scrape up. And otherwise sit around and run her website, wait for media to ask her for quotes whenever something comes up, get pamphlets printed, and organize volunteers for booths at street fairs etc. Or maybe she's an actual Brady/VPC employee just tasked with making it look as though WI has a grassroots anti-gun org. The other thing is that by it's name, WAVE is "anti violence" but does not seem concerned at all with gangs, street fights, domestic violence etc. Shrug... I don't find her to be much of a threat. I've NEVER actually heard or seen a WAVE member other than her. And the usual one-woman show M.O. of having a P.O. box, no offices etc. Dick Baker was sitting next to her at the Capitol during one of the previous WI CCW sessions, or said 'Hi' to her in the halls, and during their conversation she stated she knew CCW was not a threat, and felt it was all about blunting the "NRA's momentum" as she put it. IMO, WAVE/Jeri had zero impact on CCW in previous sessions, Chvala and Doyle were already solidly anti-gun. |

I've thought about signing up for their email alerts, But I know I'd just get more PO'd. http://www.waveedfund.org/ Please leave the link cold. Interesting. Poorly updated. I'm a big fan of following the money. They don't have a lot of large donors but they do have a number of small ones. That adds up. Reviewing the names on the donor record, the use of names like "Freedom States Alliance" and the use of GunGuys in an attempt to trick donations is very irresponsible. But I suppose if you need to swindle donations, you need to swindle donations. It is disturbing to see Pick 'n Save on the list of donors. Same with Curvee and Kohl's. I wish I could call it a Brady / Joyce shell game, but they're real enough. They're touted on our state's department of health web site at http://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/health/injuryprevention/resources.htm and by the Journal Sentinel at http://www.jsonline.com/news/crime/. I bet a bunch of her donors probably don't even really "know" there's people who feel differently. I mean who wouldn't be against violence, right? Also, are they current? Just knee-jerk signing checks for a group that sounds community oriented or whatever. I suppose it would be possible to make enough of a stink to choke off her funding. Although for all that WAVE has achieved over the past fifteen years, they might as well poured the money into a hole. |

If you've been following them at all on facebook, they'll delete anything pro-gun from their own page, no matter how calm and reasonable it is. They simply don't want real facts on their page.
On the farm and fleet issue, she's written a few times at the beginning, but mostly her groupies (about 4 real anti-gun people, including jeri) are posting, and of course, can't back up their claims. One of them was a nut job who got fed up and said "I'm right, your wrong, I win. goodbye!" and was never heard from again. That is one person who needs mental evaluation! There have been a couple of fake accounts made just to post on this page, but they got deleted. There is another page, called "WAVE LIES". I don't think they've posted a single thing there yet to defend themselves. |

And I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that every time I see an IL plate, they're doing at least 15-20 over the speed limit.

Pro-gun groups need to wise up and beat them at their own game. Until someone is willing to play the politics and be willing to be creative, WAVE will continue to collect the dollars which could be coming our way instead... If a group (individual) like WGO can take money from gullible gun owners with his flashy web site and regurgitated news stories, a legitimate groups should be able to create a site and funnel cash to where it belongs...

I mentioned the latest sound-bite from her in that Yahoo news article, and sent it to Dick Baker. (He "retired", sort of, down south in 2010) He mentioned Jeri's gotten $300k from Joyce foundation just recently. He's really good at "follow the money". So maybe you'll see a billboard or a TV spot in the near future.
Although he feels she's pretty lazy, and is just making a living off of it, and does the minimum to make herself and WAVE credible to her donors/grants etc. IMO, WAVE is almost a good thing, because Jeri steals all the thunder from a REAL grass-roots anti-gun group that might be more effective. Personally, I'm more worried about what WGO/Corey Graff will do or say. He's staked out positions against shall-issue CCW in the past, claiming it's backdoor gun registration etc. And even ran ads against Dave Zien in his district during the 2006 election cycle. If the AZ/AK Constitutional Carry option stays in, hopefully this will give WGO nowhere to stand on the issue. Although I expect he'll then just send out a newsletter taking credit for it, despite the fact he/WGO has never contacted a legislator, or does anything but send out GOA-style newsletters accusing every other WI RKBA group of being sell-outs and traitors. |
