I will be in door county from Christmas to New Years, and I need some ideas on things to do. I know lots of places are normally closed for the winter but it is the only time we can take off from work. So that being said, I am looking for some ideas from people who may have some experience in wintering in door county.
My current ideas include, 1. Casino - Can anyone recommend one? I think I may have to drive to Green Bay for this. A casino with some show would be sweet too. 2. Holiday play/concerts - I know there are a few community things such as these. 3. Movie theater - I will be in the Northern part of the county, does anyone know of one? 4. Swim in the pool like 14 hours a day. 5. Park? I think we may adventure to some scenic overlooks (anyone know of names to google?) I guess I don't have many ideas, I don't mind driving or spending the day away from the area if there is a cool small town to see near Green Bay. So if anyone can get me started on an idea I would be very thankful. Bill |

I grew up in Door County

Holiday play/concerts - I know there are a few community things such as these. not sure being that the county "shuts down" after fall fest 3. Movie theater - I will be in the Northern part of the county, does anyone know of one? nearest movie theater is in Sturgeon Bay 4. Swim in the pool like 14 hours a day. Most of the resorts have a pool 5. Park? I think we may adventure to some scenic overlooks (anyone know of names to google?) Penninsula State Park, Drive to the tip of the county kinda a neat drive, Newport state park (all hiiking), Whitefish Dunes State park, a MUST SEE is Cave Point (right by Whitefish Dunes), check out the shipyards in Sturgeon Bay, Check out some lighthouses, there's a gun club between Egg Harbor and Fish Creek, Ice fishing, snowmobiling, x counrty skiing, snowshoeing, there is a neat little county park off of Porte De Morte rd with a cool overlook, take the ferry to Washington Island, get drunk, any other questions just ask |

Don't know what events would be happening on Washington Island but the ferry ride would be worth it...there are hotels etc. but I think there is only one ferry daily in Dec. Gibson's west harbor resort is where we used to stay...Herb & Marie are super people...their lodge is kinda like stepping back in time. You may want to call ahead. |

I would REALLY call ahead and find out what's open. Mrs. Dual and I took a camping trip up north to various state parks etc. and went to Washington Island the weekend before Memorial Day. It was a ghost town. There was nothing to do. I can't even imagine what it's like in winter. I think the main thing to do in Door County during the winter time is just sit around and enjoy the absence of FIB's. |
