One of my buddies is looking for a reasonably priced 870 as a gift for his for father in law. Bass Pro has them for $289, has anyone else seen them for equal or lesser price anywhere? He is also good with a used one thats in good shape so if you happen to see one on a rack somewhere i would appreciate a heads up. I think anything with in 100 miles of milwaukee would be good, a 26" or 28" bird barrel wouold be ideal. thanks in advance.

The FIL is not the purchaser of the gun, the original poster is and as long as he has no reason to believe the his FIL is not prohibited from owning the gun he is perfectly legal to do so.

There are a few. I believe Plover was the last one I saw with a real display.  The one in Johnson Creek has two spinning display cases - one rifle and one shotgun.

During the couldn't find any ammo and customer limit days, I would stop at any and every one I would pass just to check.

FYI - the Walmart on Brown Deer Rd. near old Northridge doesn't even have ammo.

ETA - I recall a member here telling us some of the Wally World locations in WI even have all the ammo NOT LOCKED UP BEHIND GLASS - help yourself. Haven't seen that yet.

ETA 2 - The new Waukesha Super Walmart had various Tula ammo in their new glass case –– which I had read about but not seen –– and the glass case isn't behind the counter so you can actually look inside.

Out of the OP's area but  FWIW... Walmarts in Minocqua and Antigo  have ammo but no guns. Walmart in Rhinelander still has guns, and their two rotating display cases hold about a dozen each, one has shotguns, one has rifles (and they're always full). It seems like every time I'm there, there's something missing and something new. I've been eyeing up a Mossberg 935 that's there, for waterfowling.  It's black and the clerk said if I want it in camo, he can get me one in a few days.... so they will even order something you might want that they don't have.

btw... Walmart in Rhinelander has it's pistol ammo in a locked display case, but all the shotgun & rifle ammo sits on open shelves.

Walmart in Plover still has firearms and ammo, both behind glass (shotgun and some rifle is out in the open).

Wal Mart in Wausau has ammo not behind the glass. First time I had seen TulAmmo in person.

OT I know, but I saw the tul ammo, sad it was steel cased. :(

Our wal-mart sells ammo, but no firearms.
