I've got this idea. With CCW in WI on the horizon, I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd like to do more than finger some different pistols, and possibly shoot them, something you usually can't at a shop or show.
So I'm thinking we can get together at a public range, have a bunch of different pistols and holsters people can handle, and shoot. for safety, no practice drawing from a holster "to get the feel" with a loaded gun. Need some way to let people know who has what gun, or a list of guns they can try...maybe some tables with signs of available guns? We'd have to figure out the ammo angle though. Some guys might be picky about what they want shooting in their guns, so someone couldn't use their own reloads in someone elses gun. So probably pay for the ammo they shoot, outright. I see this as a warm weather (spring?) outdoor event. |

I would be open to holding this on my property, which is located about 30 miles west of Oshkosh on highway 21.
My shooting berm is about 15 feet high and about 60 feet long, there are no covered shooting positons but I do have tables and one canopy that I would put up. We might even be able to turn it into a BBQ or something. |

so.... WI is going to get CCW. The state will soon trust its citizens to carry guns but we don't trust each other to safely do a proper drawstroke.

Not quite my intention. Would you walk out of a gun shop with a new pistol, holster, ammo, then load the magazine in the parking lot and start carrying right there and then? (well, maybe SOME folks )
Naw, you'd take it home, get familiar with the handling of the safety, how much force it takes to rack the slide, etc. In other words, you'd get used to it unloaded first, right? then take it to the range, sight it in, and so on. So all I'm saying is that when you first handle a weapon at this proposed party, you'd familiarize yourself with an unloaded weapon >before< you headed to the firing line, right? Maybe you'd just like to see how it feels coming out of a holster w/o needing to fire cause you're looking more at how certain type of holsters fit you. So you could stay behind the firing line, and behind the firing line means unloaded. Hope this makes sense. It's noon and I still haven't eaten yet. |

Just like any other time. We would need to comply with any private person dictating the rules, just like if we were visiting to pet his dog, just like any other time. Pretty simple. This is by definition, is a noob event. I for one have never practiced drawing from a hidden pistol because, there hasn't been any point. Heck, with our state laws a gun in my computer desk drawer in my home is a "concealed weapon" and is a misdemeanor crime. The event sounds like a really good idea to me. Heck, I am even planning on buying a small 9mm and would accelerate the plan to bring a suitable CC pistol. (I have a full size 9mm already.)

Nam,
The black helicopters are on their way to your newly roofed house just out of point to check the serial numbers on those firearms you have listed and that you have stored in the closet of spare bedroom on the second floor (NE corner). I hope they don't hurt any chickens during their entry. I hope you get my point of this post. |
