anyone hunt pigs in the SW part of the state? hows the hunting been? any regulations? the DNR website says they're not regulated, so no license or weapon restrictions? thanks.
eta: just found the part requiring small game license. |

Kind of like Sasquatch. Sure, there are farms where you can "hunt" wild boar. And by hunt, I mean the farmer turns them loose at the beginning of the day, and you don't have to sneak up on them. Hell, sometimes the pigs will walk up to you looking for food! "You don't want to let them loose more than a couple days in advance, because they're too hard to hunt." I believe was one quote I've seen. I think the closest we can get to actual hog hunting is Missouri. |

You can do it for deer, elk, etc. but not for hogs because the state is worried about them getting loose. |

We've discussed this recently.
2/3rds of the year in WI, no pig in it's right mind is going to want to run away from a farm where it's sheltered and fed. Winter probably keeps a cap on the population, or maybe they actually migrate south where it's milder year-round. And I think farm pigs would have a really hard time surviving the first few winters until they'd cross-bred and out-bred enough back into wild boars and had heavy hair etc. |

About the dead horse comment, we had a thread last year about this and even the locals to the SW part of the state have not heard or seen actual feral (wild born) pigs for years. I am not saying that they do not exist, but if they did or do, gun deer season would account for more sightings/harvest, etc. I have a feeling that there are some loose or escapee pigs/hogs from time to time, but they quickly get killed or die. Based on the damage I see in other states, wild free ranging (outside the fence) hogs are not something most landowners would covet. |

Don't believe it? Here's something for you, and it was the small one. The big one got away. http://rhinelanderdailynews.com/articles/2007/11/21/outdoors/outdoor1.txt This was taken near Lake Tomahawk which is only 7 miles south of Minocqua. It also happened in 2007. |

Quoted: Yea sorry. That was the one from 2007, I forgot to include the date. A guy who was in on the kill the next day said they had seen an even bigger one. Sure would have looked good over a firepit!Quoted: It also happened in 2007.Don't believe it? Here's something for you, and it was the small one. I have not see any pigs but I ride my bike most of the year and
I was ridding home one night and I swear to god no joke I saw two wolves in new Berlin? now I know human memory is crap and perception is worst but I stick to my guns. they were wolves. if you watch monster quest on the history Chanel they are allways showing <> proof of animals that are no longer in an area are comming back. and they did a whole episode on faral pigs, they are amaizing at breading and never being seen. I also know people who go hunting every year (real hunting not just geting away from the wife ) and some times not see and deer. but we know there are tons of deers. so get some poeple together and hunt some pig. you might get lucky and get one of those monster hugs. if you do I will bring the charcoal and beer |

You want young pigs, preferably under 300 lbs. for the best eatin'. Not that I wouldn't shoot a monster pig. I just wouldn't eat it. |

Their not supposed to be in Manitowoc county either but they are seen so frequently here now that it doesnt' even get a second glance when you mention you saw one. |

A car killed a wolf in jefferson co. a few years back. I don't doubt they are in waukesha, I think I've heard them a couple nights this summer. It's a little scary. |
