Can someone tell me about this Park. Want to go camping there with the wife and kid. Any good fishing, etc. to do there? Camp grounds well maintained? Mostly just want to take it easy and fish. Wife unit thinks she will be eaten
by a Bear.

Did you mean Merrick State park?

http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/parks/specific/merrick/

That park is about 6 miles from where I live.

No bears, mostly deer, and being right on the river lots of aquatic animals.

Easy place to take kids fishing.

Camping spots look good, the upper campground has electricity for some sites and a shower house.

The lower ones are down by the river, some you can tie your boat up at your camp site.

The park rangers there drive around every couple of hours or so during the day.

Any other questions let me know.

It's not far from Perrot, another option as well on the river...

Perrot has more trails to hike as well, some that go from teh riverside up to the top of the bluffs there.

And there are Indian mounds and other historical sites in the park.

Has  there been any flooding in the area that might make conditions not so nice? What kind of stores in the area for supplies etc.?

For Merrick, Fountain City is only 3 miles away, they have a Kwik Trip for a convienence store.

Winona Mn is a little over 10 miles away, they have the usual Walmart and Target stores. Fleet Farm for sporting good that you might need.
Perrot Park has the town of Trempealeau right on the south edge of the park that has the usual C/stores

Holmen/Onalaske/La Crosse starts about 15 miles away if you are looking for a larger grocery store.
Water level in the river is fine, no problems with floods for now.

Used to go there every year since I was...well I don't remember. I love the sites on the river, it is not the main channel so no barges. Great fishing, lot of back waters. Always had a great time there.
