Hello everybody,
I just recently purchased an AR and am looking for a good range to site it in/shoot. I have used the range search feature but don't really know where to start. I typically use indoor ranges for my 1911 but that's not going to work for rifle. I am located in the greater Milwaukee area. Thanks for the help guys. |

We've only got a 100 yard range right now, but are going to be building a 300 as soon as the foundry sand disposal co. has a load for us to make the berms. And just in northeastern Muskego, they're the closest in centerfire outdoor range I'm aware of. definitely not a fudd-club, they have lots of USPSA shooting there etc. |

I don't know. There's a material disposal corporation that does this and it was just a given on the part of the board members who said we were doing this. Because they otherwise have to PAY to get rid of this sand if no one wants it, they'll even coat it with dirt and spray it with grass seed to stabilize it. |

I'll vote AGAINST schultz and point you to racine county line or daniel boone. Racine county line has a 600 yard range, you can rapid fire, etc. Daniel boone has the best facility of anywhere I've been to in WI (or elsewhere for a local range) and has a staggering array of options, 200 yard, but they have moving targets to shoot at, etc. Schultz simply has the convenience of proximity (and also the swarms of mosquitos that come from being adjacent to a stagnant pool of water in those reeds before big muskego lake). In short: go north, or further south to daniel boone (dbcl.org) or racine county line (linked in post above mine).

I used to be a member at Schultz's until the "round over the berm" incident a few years ago which lead to you having to shoot while a RO was there or you had to bring a partner who would act as a RO while you were shooting. I'm now a member of RCLRC and there is no better. However.....the one thing the Schultz's has that RCLRC doesn't is............BEER in the clubhouse!!!!! |

i was under the impression that the OP was looking for a range, not a club. OP, if you are looking for a club, i can recommend RCLRC. Great range, awesome members! Doesn't the last C in RCLRC stand for Club? please re-read my posts. Once again I have proven myself to be an idiot! |

Doesn't Daniel Boone have a "no humanoid targets" policy?
They even prohibit the standard FBI B27 and even the USPSA Box-on-Octagon. Forgive me if that's no longer the case. Schultz does have the no shoot alone policy, however, there's usually someone there more often than not, and there are members who live less than five minutes away who are retired, and have nothing better to do than hang out at the club if you need someone to shoot. They provide their numbers, and also, members often do a stint of being on-site and it's announced at the monthly meetings what the times are. Schultz also has an action pistol bay you can set up and drag around plates and barrels as you wish to replicate USPSA/IDPA stages etc. The club is kind of small, but it's close in, and if you're trying to squeeze in shooting around spouse, kids, job, church, all your other commitments etc... having it only out in Muskego can make a big difference because getting out there to only shoot for an hour or two is do-able. The best club in the world does you no good if you don't get there very often. |

Built a police range using foundry sand...but maybe there are different grades of sand, or something? The range was great, but don't let the builders go cheap and just seed it and cover with straw, because when it rains hard a few days later, it WILL erode at inconvenient spots.

I was talking to the sand disposal co. and they indicated they HAVE to put dirt to a certain depth on top then seed to stabilize per DNR regulations on the matter. I should have been more clear. Grass won't grow in the sand, so be sure that they cover the top layer of soil with something to stop erosion until the grass actually starts growing and takes root...or else the good soil erodes away two days later, when it rains, leaving a bunch of sand exposed...and getting people back out there, to cover the sand with new soil, is difficult impossible. |
