I guess i'm becoming a bit of a beer snob after having lived in WI for 2 years. Here are some reviews of local spots. Please feel free to add any I've missed.
As I lived in Madison this will be fairly location specific The Great Dane is a pretty good brew pub in Madison, there are 4 or so locations. I prefer the one at the Hilldale mall, as they have my favorite beer, "Cream Ale". It's a seasonale only available in the summer - they make it for the Mallards baseball games. Not all of the Great Dane locations carry all the same beer. The other place I enjoy, and was at this past weekend is in Mt. Horeb, and is called the Grumpy Troll. It's about 15 miles south of Madison off 151. They're a small microbrew with great food. Ale Asylum is on the north east side, but only has sandwiches and pizza for food and all their beer is very hoppy. If you want to get the beverages to go, I usually recommend Woodmans. There are two locations, Milwaukee Street off 51, or off Gamon on the SW side of town. They've got great selections. The only problem is Madison prohibits alcohol sale after 9 pm in town for off sale |

Spotted Cow is one of my favorites New Glarus Brewery FTW! They offer a few year around types, Spotted Cow (great on a summer afternoon after mowing and trimming 2 acres of grass!) being one, and they offer a few 'unplugged' types every year! Currently, I'm working on a supply of Crack'd Wheat. |

Lakefront Brewery - not really a restaurant if we're keeping that theme going, but their Friday Fish Fry is amazing. Tour is a lot of fun too and love their brews. Monkey Wheat is my current favorite. They are building a Lakefront Brewery in Grafton. Not sure of their location choice - next to I43 in a swamp between a gas station and a hotel. |

I have to disagree. I at at the troll once, and it was disgusting, stale nasty fish with spongy breading, I will never eat there again.

Silver Creek in Cedarburg has the best Porter and Vintage Ale (Belgian Strong style) in WI. Their IPA is also the most approachable I've had (for the novice drinkers). The ONE problem with them is they are not 100% consistent.
Lakefront's Riverwest Stein is the best all-purpose gigging beer for musicians. The best place to drink beer in Milwaukee is The Sugar Maple in Bayview. They have 60+ microbrews on tap plus cask beer. Mmmmmmm warm beer. |

The only problem is Madison prohibits alcohol sale after 9 pm in town for off sale Unless you travel to Shorewood Hills and stop at the Vic Pierce. They sell beer till midnight. Also, Capital Brewery's Supper Club is quite tasty. Vic Pierce is actually over here on the east side in Maple Bluff where I work. 609 N Sherman Av. IMHO, Spotted Cow FTW. |

Great time. We are planning on doing the "canal cruise" later this summer and hit up all the breweries along the way. |
