The Appleseed project: http://appleseedinfo.org/as_faq.htm
is looking for a range in central WI to conduct our 2 day weekend course. I have contacted the public and private ranges I found, and got a big thumbs down. All we need is a place with a good safe backstop (sandy hill, etc.) at a distance of 25M or more. Please contact me if you have access to a suitable spot. Thanks! |

If I remember right, there was a decent public range near Wisconsin Rapids if that's the area you're around. My dad and I shoot there fairly often when I'm up there, usually no one there, and they just upgraded a lot of the benches. I think it's off Griffith. EDIT: My dad is going to double check (he lives in Rapids), when I find out I'll post. EDIT 2: Found http://www.co.wood.wi.us/Departments/Parks/RifleRange.aspx |

There's a nice one by Black River. It's east of BRF & south of 54, just a few miles east of 94. It has a real high sand berm & it has railroad ties up on stilts that you have to shoot under. I think that's to prevent rounds from going over/outside the range. The lowest of the ties are probably 12 feet off the ground. You could inquire at the Airport Bar between BRF & the range. Ther probably isn't an airport for 20 miles. I have no idea how they gave it that name.
Good luck. |

Ranges I know in Central WI:
-Wood Country Rifle Club (Wisconsin Rapids)(600 yard high power range) -Duane Corbin Rifle Rifle (Marathon Country Rifle Range). Rifle and pistol, out to 300 yards. Closed during the winter. However, the facility has an excellent classroom. -Central Wisconsin Sportsmens Club, Marshfield WI. (I know they're open over the winter, and would be quite surprised if they were unwilling to work something out) If what you are asking is for someone to open up their land for you to do whatever, without any revenue generation or club involvement, that's going to be tough. |

The Wood County Rifle club range would be awesome for an Appleseed. Appleseed is willing to pay a range fee if need be. Shiocton is a pubic range but it costs us $300 for the weekend to reserve it for exclusive use. |

First and Last Chance Bar and Grill is right across HWY 27 from the airfield, and the Airport Lounge is right near the prison. Seems to me they should switch names. Anyway, good luck getting that range. Folks who are members there generally consider riflemanship to be knocking 3-4 rounds a year into a pie plate a week before deer season with their Browning Abolt on sandbags. You'd have better luck trying to convince the Police/Sheriff's Dept to let you use their range, and not much luck at that either I think. |
